A U.K. domain name registrar confirmed today that an attack on its system redirected traffic for some of its customers' sites to a Web page controlled by hackers.

Fewer than a dozen domain names registered by NetNames were affected by the attack, which occurred on Sunday, according to Stuart Fuller, a spokesman for NetNames parent Group NBT. He declined to name the sites that were redirected.

Sony took a loss in its fiscal first quarter due largely to the Japanese quake and to lower TV sales, forcing the company to lower its annual forecast.

For the quarter that ended June 30, the electronics giant reported today a net loss of 15.5 billion yen ($199 million), compared with a net profit of 25.7 billion yen a year ago. Revenue dropped 10 percent to 1.49 trillion yen from 1.66 trillion yen in the prior year's quarter.

The Federal Communications Commission registered its Net neutrality rules with the Office of Management and Budget yesterday, which is the next step in making the new regulations official.

The rules, which were adopted in December, will now be available for comment for the next 30 days. At the end of the comment period and assuming that the OMB issues its approval, the new rules will then be published in the Federal Register and take effect 60 days later.
