Fujifilm's camera for the crazed?

Sometimes, it's simply too hard to resist quoting the press release: Fujifilm "today unveiled the FinePix Z20fd, a new ultraglam digital camera packed with useful features that let you face it, beam it, blog it, and now roll it with a new MPEG-4 movie-recording mode for the movie-crazed Generation Z."

Translation: The Z20fd replaces the Z10fd in the pretty-but-not-too-pricey market segment. Its basic specs include 10-megapixel sensor, a slow f/3.7-8.0 35mm-105mm-equivalent (3x) zoom lens and a low-resolution 150,000-pixel 2.5-inch LCD. Some of the more noncorporeal features include Fujifilm staples like Intelligent Flash (… Read more

Fujifilm's fresh new FinePix

Just a few days before CES, Fujifilm has announced its newest digital camera. The 8-megapixel FinePix Z100fd replaces last year's FinePix Z5fd with a stylish design and several useful features.

Besides its colorful shell, the Z100fd's lens and stabilization system stand out as its most prominent features. The 36 to 180mm-equivalent 5x lens lets users get up a bit closer than typical 3x lenses, and sensor-shifting image stabilization helps reduce shake, particularly useful when employing the camera's full zoom. Its 2.7-inch LCD screen offers a larger-than-usual display when framing and reviewing shots. In-camera file management can … Read more

Photos: Special-purpose cameras for everyone

How-to guides on photography sometimes advise that you exhale slowly as you squeeze the shutter release, so that you're not tense and shaky from holding your breath. If you breathe out when using the Olympus Stylus 790SW, however, you might end up with unwanted bubbles in your picture--it's designed to go into the swimming pool and still keep working.

That waterproof Olympus is just one of the quirky cameras that might suit your offbeat impulses for snapshooting. Some double as binoculars, perfect for birders who don't want to lose sight of that elusive cerulean warbler--or for private … Read more

Camera falls victim to Hello Kitty

Usually the gadgets we see that have been conquered by the Sanrio empire are of dubious quality, though that obviously matters not to its loyal subjects. But Hello Kitty Hell, the spiritual leader of The Resistance, has come across a new item that has gotten some early nods from a few consumers.

Fujifilm's "FinePix Z5," which has received a few high marks in reader reviews, is the latest victim of Hello Kitty subjugation, festooned with Swarovski crystals, a gold emblem and, of course, the trademark Pepto-Bismol pink. All this for $500 on the Japanese market.

Gizmo technology report-- edible inkjetting

Fujifilm's farm-fresh FinePix cameras

Fujifilm has three new FinePix cameras on the way, including one with a powerful lens and another that proves there actually is a step between 8 and 10 megapixels.

The FinePix S700 is a 7-megapixel midrange camera with a 10x optical zoom and an electronic viewfinder. Like most midrange EVF-equipped cameras, the S700 is targeted at amateur photographers who want to get their hands on more advanced options without shelling out the cash for an SLR. Unfortunately, it lacks any sort of mechanical or optical image stabilization beyond an ISO 1600 sensitivity setting, so you'll need to use a … Read more

Fuji to release two fives in early '07

Fujifilm decided to stop being coy and tell us when, and for how much, we'll be able to buy its recently announced S5 Pro dSLR and Z5fd ultracompact cameras. We first told you about the 6.3-megapixel FinePix Z5fd in November, but at the time we didn't know whether it would be sold in the U.S. at all. Now we can say with confidence that Fuji intends to ship the FinePix Z5fd in March 2007, and it will set you back about $230.

First deets on the FinePix S5 Pro hit the blogs back in September, and … Read more

Don't lose your head with this camera

When taking photos, we've beheaded more people than Henry XIII's personal executioner. That's why this new Fujifilm camera may be tailor-made for us.

The FinePix Z5fd, according to Akihabara News, can recognize and focus on faces so that they stay in the picture. Although this feature has been offered in some of Fujifilm's more expensive lines, we're hoping that that this model will be more affordable though no pricing has been disclosed.

We're so bad at focusing (especially at parties where alcohol is involved) that we're still not convinced we'll be able … Read more
