Just a few days before CES, Fujifilm has announced its newest digital camera. The 8-megapixel FinePix Z100fd replaces last year's FinePix Z5fd with a stylish design and several useful features.

Besides its colorful shell, the Z100fd's lens and stabilization system stand out as its most prominent features. The 36 to 180mm-equivalent 5x lens lets users get up a bit closer than typical 3x lenses, and sensor-shifting image stabilization helps reduce shake, particularly useful when employing the camera's full zoom. Usually the gadgets we see that have been conquered by the Sanrio empire are of dubious quality, though that obviously matters not to its loyal subjects. But Hello Kitty Hell, the spiritual leader of The Resistance, has come across a new item that has gotten some early nods from a few consumers.

Fuji intros Sensor-shift IS in newest batch of compacts

Summer is in full swing and the season is heating up with new camera announcements. Fujifilm has three new FinePix cameras on the way, including one with a powerful lens and another that proves there actually is a step between 8 and 10 megapixels.

Fuji to release two fives in early '07

Fujifilm decided to stop being coy and tell us when, and for how much, we'll be able to buy its recently announced S5 Pro dSLR and Z5fd ultracompact cameras. We first told you about the 6.3-megapixel FinePix Z5fd in November, but at the time we didn't know whether it would be sold in the U.S. at all. Now we can say with confidence that Fuji intends to ship the FinePix Z5fd in March 2007, and it will set you back about $230.

When taking photos, we've beheaded more people than Henry XIII's personal executioner. That's why this new Fujifilm camera may be tailor-made for us.

The FinePix Z5fd, according to Akihabara News, can recognize and focus on faces so that they stay in the picture. Although this feature has been offered in some of Fujifilm's more expensive lines, we're hoping that that this model will be more affordable though no pricing has been disclosed.
