How to drive like a billionaire

Today and tomorrow, some lucky people are driving a set of supercars, including a Ferrari F430, a Lamborghini Gallardo, and a Porsche Turbo 997, around the Auto Club Speedway track in Fontana, Calif. To get this lucky, all you have to do is pony up $4,990 to Supercar Life, a company with a fleet of very fast cars that it uses to host track events. The company provides professional instruction to the drivers, taking the morning of the event day to show them how to drive on the track. During the afternoon, the clients take the wheel.

Asus Lamborghini VX3 pulls into the lab

Maybe it's because we live in Manhattan and don't drive, but computers named after cars have always caught our eye. We've seen licensed laptops based on the Ferrariand Lamborghinibrands before, but we're still waiting for a Prius-branded "green" laptop -- surely a winning marketing tie-in if there ever was one.

We saw the latest entry in the Asus Lamborghini line, the VX3, briefly at CES back in January, and now the final product has roared into the CNET Lab, ready to take on all comers with a brand-new Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 CPU, … Read more

A 'Ferrari' phone you can play with

One can only imagine how much time and money went into the design and development of Ferrari's branded phones, whether it be a Razr offshoot or a vaunted Vertu. So it would be deliciously ironic if the best seller of all didn't come from a big-name handset maker at all--and resembled a toy.

The F1 really does look like one of the storied cars until it's turned over to reveal a 2.2-inch LCD touch screen, keypad, and Ferrari logo that probably wasn't officially sanctioned by its legendary namesake, according to Chip Chick. Then again, we … Read more

How to own and race four Ferraris at once

No matter what kind of cars you're into, it can't be denied that there's just nothing like a Ferrari. Even when they're tiny.

Yes, there are other remote-controlled cars that might even go faster, but they'll always be pretenders to the throne in our book. Officially licensed by the racing legend, the "RealDrive Nano" racers come in miniature replicas of the Testarossa, F430, 512BB, and Enzo on a 1/58 scale, according to Technabob.

Intricately detailed, they include LED corner lights and respond to different wavelengths so as many as four can be … Read more

Photos: Mean green machines from Detroit

Not content with bringing you a veritable avalanche of our own blogs, galleries, and video coverage from the Detroit auto show, CNET.com has teamed up with AutoSpies.com for even more slide-show action.

Fuel efficiency and reduced emissions are all the rage among automakers this year, and even the supercar manufacturers are getting in on the act. Check out our image gallery of some of the red-hot, green-minded sports cars from this year's North American International Auto Show.

Ghastly green Ferrari F430

The trend among automakers to go green apparently has engulfed Ferrari, as it displayed an F430 affixed with Bio Fuel stickers on the hood and doors at the 2008 Detroit auto show. The company isn't saying anything about it until Monday, but we are willing to go out on a pretty thick limb and say Ferrari modified the F430's engine to run on some mix of ethanol. An engine set up on a stand next to the F430 had green spark plug caps and fuel rails, a color that clashed horribly with the red valve covers, but signals … Read more

Photos: Ferrari 430 Scuderia and 612 Sessanta

For the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show, Ferrari showed off two variations on previous models. The 430 Scuderia is based on the F430, but significantly lightened and given a new transmission to give it track performance on par with Ferrari's Enzo model. Where the 430 Scuderia emphasizes performance, the 612 Sessanta emphasizes luxury. The latter is a collector's edition, based on the 612 Scaglietti, marking Ferrari's 60th anniversary.

Ferrari finally puts its logo on a racing product

Perhaps the most noteworthy aspect of Ferrari's latest marketing creation is that it actually involves cars, albeit virtual ones. Until the racing legend came out recently with a co-branded Segway, many of the products bearing its storied stallion logo--from binoculars to boomboxes--had nothing to do with transportation at all.

Appearing first on the U.K. market is the "Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience, which can work with the PlayStation 3, PS2 and PCs. In addition to various features that are sure to open up gamers' throttles the world over, Shiny Shiny says it has realistic gear shift levers … Read more
