Vote in the 2007 Car Tech Awards

Another year comes to a close and we consider all the amazing cars we've reviewed. For this year's Car Tech Awards, we've nominated 10 cars in the contest for the 2007 Tech Car of the Year. You can look at the nominees, find out why we selected each one, and cast your vote. We will take the result or our reader poll and the votes of our staff judges to decide the 2007 Tech Car of the Year, which we will announce on January 14, 2008. We also have a set of additional awards for such categories … Read more

Review: 2008 Acura TL Type-S

We've been a little disappointed with the Acura cars we've seen lately, so the 2008 Acura TL Type-S surprised us with its fun performance. Last year's Acura RL in particular was a letdown, as its electronics were old and its performance wasn't particularly fun or economical. But the 2008 Acura TL Type-S proved to be a car we wanted to drive. And although its electronics are dated, its audio system is one of the best around.

Infiniti G35's navigation ranks most satisfactory

In a recent J.D. Power and Associates survey, users ranked the navigation system in the Infiniti G35 as the most satisfactory. Coming in at a very close second was the system in the Lexus IS 250/350, then a little further down, in third, was the Acura TL. We are not terribly surprised at these rankings, as we've been very impressed with these navigation systems in the past. However, the landscape will change dramatically in 2008, as we've seen more and more hard drive-based systems released, which access data faster than on DVD-based systems. Another feature we … Read more

Photos: The safest cars of 2007

Following our round up of state-of-the-art car safety features, we're continuing our Car Tech safety kick with a roundup of the 18 vehicles that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has chosen as its top safety picks.

The shortlist is pretty evenly split between American, European, and Asian manufacturers, with two entries each from Ford, Acura, Subaru, and Audi. Take a look at the gallery here.

Honda overcounts its miles

According to Engadget, Hondas and Acuras sold between April 2002 and November 2006 report more miles on the odometer than they actually covered. Honda claims that the car's 3.75 percent overcalculation of miles is within the Society of Automotive Engineers' 4 percent delta for odometer readings, but the company is still going to pay out a settlement to lessees and extend the warranties on the cars. Odometers aren't actually regulated by any government agency, and not only will affect the car's reported total miles covered, but all its fuel economy.

First date with the 2007 Acura TL-S

The foundation of every good relationship is the ability to listen and understand one other. How fitting then, that our Valentine's Day delivery to the CNET Car Tech garage should be the Acura TL-S, one of the most understanding cars in the world. We climbed into the cabin of this souped-up version of Acura's midsized technosedan, and in no time we already were making ourselves understood with perfect clarity.

"Driver temperature, 65 degrees," we ventured after a press of the Voice button on the steering wheel. "Driver temperature, 65 degrees," responded TL's empathetic … Read more

Acura's newest tech barge

With amenities such as navigation with live traffic reporting and a phenomenal stereo system, Acura led the way in car technology with its RL and RDX models. Now it has taken the tech from those cars and loaded it into the full-size MDX SUV. We just got the 2007 Acura MDX in at CNET Car Tech, and this car gives us a lot to chew on. As with many SUVs these days, the MDX gets a third row of seats. With its relatively short body, the third row occupies most of the cargo area, so you can either haul six … Read more

2007 Acura RDX first drive

We just began our review period for the Acura RDX, a car that should make any tech-nut drool. Beyond its place in the new class of crossovers, the most notable thing about the RDX is the option to get a similar technology package to that of the Acura RL. This package includes a navigation system that shows traffic flow, voice recognition, and Bluetooth cell phone integration. It also includes one of the best car stereo systems available, with 10 speakers, surround sound, a six-disc changer, and an auxiliary input.

The car itself is a peppy little thing with a 240 … Read more
