Kodak delivers new camera for social fanatics

Kodak has released a tiny camera designed specifically to help people share images on a variety of social sites, the company said Monday.

Kodak's M590 boasts a 5X optical zoom, image stabilization, and facial recognition. The 14-megapixel camera also includes a 2.7-inch LCD display. It supports Micro-SD and Micro-SDHC.

The M590--at 3.8-inch wide, 2.3-inch high, and 0.6-inch thick, is the "world's thinnest 5X optical zoom digital camera" (at least as of July), according to Kodak.

Countdown to Kodachrome's last development

With the last roll of Kodachrome slide film ever to be manufactured by Kodak now developed, a major chapter of the film photography era is winding down. Dwayne's Photo Service of Parsons, Kansas, is the only lab left in the world that still processes this type of film, and it plans to stop processing Kodachrome on December 10. Kodak itself had previously farmed out what remained of its in-house film processing business to Dwayne's in 2006.

Digicam deluge: New cameras from Sony, Fujifilm, Panasonic, Samsung

As I mentioned back at the end of June, camera manufacturers are beginning to announce models for the second half of 2010. Sony, Fujifilm, Panasonic, and Samsung have made their announcements, three of them doing so early Wednesday morning.

Sony and Panasonic are launching mostly high-end models as well as a couple updates to older, popular models. Samsung refreshed its flagship DualView cameras and introduced a 7x zoom ultracompact for $180. And Fujifilm announced replacements to three models that were barely six months old as well as a significant update to its groundbreaking F200EXR.
