I've shared many an Instagram image by handing my phone over for someone to view. They always squint and angle the screen, then hand it back. Custom SLR is no stranger to Kickstarter; its C-Loop camera strap mount and M-Plate Pro tripod plate both got their start there. The usefulness of those products was easy to see, but its latest project, the ProDot, perhaps strays a bit into as-seen-on-TV territory.

The ProDot sticks right on your camera's shutter release, adding a soft, raised, textured surface to it. It is not unlike the trackpoints used on business laptops but considerably squishier.

While Custom SLR's Ivan Wong spins it as giving you more control and less fatigue, the greatest benefit is probably shock absorption. If you tend to push a little too hard on your release, the ProDot will lessen the vibration.

Kickstarter project Top Charms traces its lineage back to the lockets of the 17th century. At its heart, it serves pretty much the same purpose of carrying a photo as a reminder or token.

Top Charms takes a modern detour with a Facebook connection. It consists of a photo charm kit and a Facebook application. You pick out a photo on Facebook, resize it with the app, crop it to fit in a small circle, and then print it out. Kickstarter, the site that lets budding entrepreneurs throw their ideas into the ring and raise money via crowdsourcing, is now available in the U.K.

Kickstarter co-founder Yancey Strickler announced the launch yesterday to the BBC, saying that the U.S.-based service had raised over $340 million for projects. So far, there are about 200 projects specifically designed for U.K. audiences on the site. If the U.S. success is the guide, that number will increase quickly.
