It's been a long two years since the Sprint PPC-6700 first debuted, and the smart phone is starting to show its age. Fortunately, Sprint has just released its successor in the Sprint Mogul by HTC. It sports a thinner design and features Windows Mobile 6, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and EV-DO support. Overall, it's a worthy upgrade but we did have some issues with it. Read our full review to get the scoop and click on the image to take a photo tour of the Mogul.
Apple's new battery ratings for the iPhone certainly look impressive, but is 8 hours of talk time really top of the line as cell phones go? In a press release announcing the new figures, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said that "the iPhone's battery life is longer than any other smart phone and even longer than most MP3 players." That's a broad claim, particularly since that 8 hours is just a promise. In our experience, the rated battery life of a device and the actual battery life can vary, something that Apple acknowledges in the fine … Read more
You don't need an iPhone to try out iPhone apps. Since the application platform is just a browser, you can see right now how some of the apps that people are building will look on your phone.
We've covered Digg and OneTrip already, but to see even more iPhone apps all together on one page, check out iPhoneApplicationList. For best results you should use Safari, although I've also had good luck previewing iPhone apps in Firefox.
Since the apps are just Web pages, no doubt there will be many, many iPhone app directories springing up soon.

While visiting family in Palo Alto last weekend, I came upon a Helio store on the city's main shopping street, University Avenue. I knew the youth-centric MVNO carrier opened four stores in California and Colorado, but this was my first chance to visit one of the locations. I couldn't snap pictures inside, but like the carrier's corporate image, the store's interior was flashy, slick, and comfortable. There were lounge chairs, the staff was quite attentive, and the phones were featured in interactive display cases. My 6-year-old nephew was decidedly unimpressed until I showed him the dual-sliding … Read more
If you're tired of the black hue of most gadgets, you might be interested in the LG EnV's newest shade of orange. It's otherwise the same device as the original black, but at least it'll be a tad more stylish. Though we can't help but think that green would've been a better fit for the "EnV" name. It's currently available for $149.99 with a two-year contract.
According to Apple, you can ditch your fears over the rumor that the iPhone has 45 minutes of talk time. The company announced Monday that the much-anticipated handset will ship with much better battery life than was expected when it was first announced in January. The iPhone will finally be released, as you probably already know, on Friday June 29.
The numbers from Apple? The company had initially anticipated that the iPhone battery would allow five hours of talk time (though rumors around the blogosphere suggested it was actually much less than that), but now Apple is boasting that it'… Read more
Silly us. After seeing some of Vertu's recent handsets, we thought the luxury phone maker might be headed in a more subdued direction. After all, they were a far cry from the $310,000 "Signature Cobra" or even its Ferrari anniversary edition.
But nay. The company has come back with a vengeance, unveiling the "Pink Diamond Signature," a handset made of rose gold that Sybarites says "features a full spectrum of pink diamonds as well as clear diamonds paved in flower patterns along the side of the phone."
What, no platinum? It must … Read more
Nokia announced Sunday night it has three new phones on the way--one for play, one for work and one for looks. The Nokia 6267, 3500 classic and 6121 classic are expected to become available in the third quarter of this year.
The 6267 is a multimedia phone with dedicated media keys designed to make it easier to sort through and access music, photos and video. It comes with 4GB of expandable memory. A flip phone, it sports two cameras, according to the company, including one 2-megapixel camera with 8X digital zoom. The 3G phone allows users to browse the Web, … Read more
Man, if I were a Sprint or Verizon Wireless customer, I wouldn't be the happiest camper in the world. After all, the CDMA faithful have had to sit back and watch for the past few months, while their GSM counterparts at T-Mobile and AT&T got one new smart phone after another. Yet, things are starting to look up--for Sprint subscribers, anyway. Today, the carrier announced the Sprint Mogul by HTC, the long-awaited successor to the Sprint PPC-6700. It sports a thinner design, Windows Mobile 6 Professional Edition, a better camera, and more memory. Yet, we have some … Read more
If you're into Moto Rizrs, as I am, you know you can buy the Z3--but you're anxiously awaiting the Z8.
But don't ignore the third in this series, the Z6. With a great feel, a solid slide, and even a separate MP3 button, this cell phone has "winner" stamped all over it.
The chrome casing is eye-catching and good-feeling (the rubberized Z3 drops a notch there) and talk time has been around five to six hours for me, with excellent reception. Browser connection is almost instantaneous. It also takes a 2GB microSD card, so you … Read more
