It's raining Treos, hallelujah

Well, I suppose not everyone is screaming hallelujah, but for all you Treo fanatics, here's the latest scoop on some upcoming models. It appears that both the Treo 750 and the Treo 680 have been given the green light by the FCC, which means that these GSM smart phones could end up at a certain carrier's (ahem, Cingular's, cough, cough) doorstep very soon. Stay tuned...

Palm Treo cast in 'A Good Year'

The Palm Treo might really want to start thinking about getting a Hollywood agent. The smart phone, which this year made small-screen appearances on shows including How I Met Your Mother, CSI: Miami, The Nine and Boston Legal, has landed a starring role in A Good Year with Russell Crowe. Don't let all the red-carpet action go to your head, Treo.

The film, which opens Friday, is directed by Ridley Scott, the same guy behind the classic 1984 Super Bowl commercial that launched Apple's Macintosh computer.

In A Good Year, Crowe plays London-based investment expert Max Skinner, who … Read more

Treo 680 moves closer to launch

Treo lovers, ready your thumbs, as a release date for the new Treo 680 is now flying around the Web. When we first brought you the news of the low-cost Treo 680 earlier this month, we couldn't tell you much in the way of availability. But now it seems the device will go on sale November 5, and as we suspected, Cingular will be the carrier.

According to a Cingular advertisment posted on Mobility Today, the Treo 680 will cost $200 with service rebates. That might include an unlimited data plan as well, but we're not sure at … Read more

Opera Mini shrinks the Web for your Treo or BlackBerry

Up, up, down, down, left, right, left--no, this isn't a cheat code for a Nintendo game, but rather the motions you may go through while trying to view a Web page on your mobile phone. Come on, you know what I'm talking about--surfing the Web on a smart phone is like driving in L.A.; not fun and excruciatingly slow. But Opera Software is hoping to change all that with its Opera Mini Web browser, which compresses Web pages for faster delivery and better viewing on handsets. Starting today, it's available for BlackBerry and Treo owners. The … Read more

Snakes on a Treo case

I could make all kinds of jokes about this real snakeskin Treo case from Monaco, linked via geekBlue. I could draw some kind of analogy between venomous snakes and PDA-toting, suit-clad Wall Streeters. Or, of course, I could make a jab about Samuel L. Jackson killing snakes on planes and turning them into Treo cases.

But I won't. I'll keep it short and to the point: wouldn't it be a little disconcerting sometimes to think about the fact that you keep your Treo wrapped up in dead snake?

The juicy details on 'low-cost' Treo

Hey, here's a shocker (well, not really, since we know Palm can't keep a secret): today, the company announced the new Palm Treo 680, a low-cost version of its famed smart phone. Unfortunately, we don't know exactly what "low-cost" means as Palm, in its ever-teasing fashion, didn't reveal specifics on pricing, carrier (although we have our guesses, Cingular, cough, cough), or availability today. Palm CEO Ed Colligan did say, however, that it will be priced competitively with similarly featured smart phones out there, and its aim is to reach a broader and more geographically … Read more
