T-Mobile debuts Sidekick Slide and Sidekick LX

OK, kids--hope you've been nice this year, because here's something you might want to add to your holiday wish lists. Today, T-Mobile announced not one, but two new Sidekicks to be added to its lineup: the T-Mobile Sidekick LX and the T-Mobile Sidekick Slide.

Let's start with the latter since it brings something new to the mobile messaging device: a slide-up screen (all together now: oooohhh, ahhhh). Unlike previous models, which have been manufactured by Sharp/Danger, the Sidekick Slide is made by Motorola and features a smaller design. It measures 4.6 inches wide by 2.… Read more

T-Mobile snags Wi-Fi-lovin BlackBerry Curve

AT&T may have scored the RIM BlackBerry 8820 last week, but we're thinking T-Mobile got the better deal with the just-announced RIM BlackBerry 8320, aka the BlackBerry Curve with Wi-Fi (Yahtzee!). Why? Well, first it has the same sleek design of the original Curve and a more spacious and easy-to-use QWERTY keyboard. You also get a 2-megapixel camera, whereas the BlackBerry 8820 is sans camera. Of course, the latter is definitely aimed more at the business set, whereas the BlackBerry 8320 will have more mass appeal. And what can we say about the addition of Wi-Fi? Yes, … Read more

Mercora has Web 2.0 makeover

The 4-year-old company Mercora has re-branded itself as Social.FM, which does two things: 1) Sounds appropriately Webware-ish and 2) explains what the service does right in the name.

Mercora used to be an Internet radio service, but then it launched a music-streaming service for smart phones, "M," last year. It had a $50-a-year subscription fee, but it allowed owners to stream music from their own PC to their phone, as well as access the music of up to five friends.

But now, it's free. And it is utilizing the Internet buzzword of the moment--social--to describe … Read more

They are all available for purchase today in stores and online for $149.99 with a two-year contract and after discounts. Palm announces Treo 500v for Vodafone Europe

As scheduled, Palm announced a new product today for our friends across the pond: the Palm Treo 500v. Available in charcoal gray or glacier white, the smart phone sports a new, slimmer design (4.3 inches high by 2.4 inches wide by 0.6 inch deep; 4.2 ounces) and runs Windows Mobile 6 Standard Edition, which means, unlike past Treos, it won't have a touch screen (hmm, interesting). It offers 3G/UMTS support, Bluetooth, a 2-megapixel camera, and 150MB of user-available memory with a microSD expansion slot. Other than the new look, there's really not much … Read more

Ooooweee--those are some pretty enticing photos. It seems Engadget Mobile got its hands on some marketing material from Sprint about the carrier's upcoming portfolio of smart phones and cell phones for Q4, and if true, we think a lot of Sprint customers will be pleased by it.

On tap, we've got the HTC Touch with its innovative touch screen; the RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130 (aka BlackBerry Pearl 2), rocking EV-DO and GPS; the Palm Centro, the company's slimmest smart phone with EV-DO support; and finally, the LG Rumor, a slide-out QWERTY device with a focus on social … Read more

Palm to announce new device September 12, and it's not the Centro

Mark your calendars, my friends. On September 12, Palm will be making an announcement about a "new device" from their friends "across the pond." Eh? Well, we certainly know it's not going to be the Foleo. According to Palm employee Stephanie Richardson's blog, the news won't be about the Palm Centro smart phone, either. So what oh what could it be? Do you guys have any ideas? Or what would you like to see from Palm?
