LAS VEGAS--Sling Media CEO Blake Krikorian said on Tuesday that he has spoken to Apple about his company's ambition to stream iTunes music and video to the upcoming iPhone. It's unclear, however, what Apple thinks of the plan.

Krikorian made the comments after participating in a panel discussion at the National Association of Broadcasters conference, but he declined to offer details about the talks or say whether Apple welcomed such a plan. He did say Sling Media "would love to support" the iPhone.

The release of Apple TV a few weeks ago has opened up an intriguing new possibility: streaming music from iTunes on your home computer to your cell phone.

No, Apple TV does not stream over the Internet or across a cellular phone network, but the SlingBox does. And Sling Media, the makers of the SlingBox, confirmed to CNET News.com on Monday that the company is working on making the Slingbox compatible with Apple TV. The PalmOS version of the SlingPlayer Mobile software is now available as a public beta at Sling Media's Web site. The initial version of the Palm software is designed to run only on the Palm Treo 700p. The new software adds Palm to the list of supported platforms to which Slingbox products can stream home TV programming. Sling Media is makin' the rounds: first Windows Mobile, then Symbian. Now Palm OS users can sling--or placeshift--their own channels to their smart phone.

This is good news for Slingbox owners who also have a Treo 700p, which utilizes Verizon's EV-DO network. Treo 680 users will be able to sling their TV as well, but Sling cautions that the EDGE network it runs on is not an ideal connection.

What's the opposite of the Slingbox? The new SlingCatcher.

The SlingCatcher is a set-top box that will let users project Web content to a TV screen, either wired or wirelessly, through an application called SlingProjector. Navigation can be done with either the included remote or through a PC.

The device is set to be announced Sunday at CES 2007 by Sling Media, the same people behind the Slingbox, which lets you watch your home TV channels on a laptop or a smart phone. The SlingCatcher retains the Slingbox's familiar trapezoid shape.

Beginning Dec. 1, our friends across the Atlantic will be able to snag a cell phone pre-loaded with Sling Player Mobile.

The 3G mobile broadband company known as the 3 Group will be offering its new X-series of handsets with the software preinstalled needed to play content from a home television via a Slingbox, the two companies are expected to announce Thursday.
