Jaguar is a brand with quite a bit of history, and as such has retained some of its basic body styles for decades. But no more. The company is undergoing a major change as it redesigns its cars for the new millennium. The XK got a makeover that had some comparing it with Aston Martins. That was the coupe, and now comes the sedan. Jaguar's new XF is a beautiful and thoroughly modern car, with a design suggesting Bentley and Maserati. Even better, it will sell for substantially less than those cars, while having interior components never seen outside … Read more
Jaguar announced Friday that it will be offering a diesel engine with automatic transmission option for the 2008 Jaguar X-Type.
The 2.2-liter diesel engine will come with a six-speed automatic transmission, as well as the Jaguar Sequential Shift.
The car, which is available in both left and right hand drive, will be available in the U.K. in March 2008 and in Europe in April 2008. No word yet on a U.S. release.
Premium car audio systems from Bose and Mark Levinson are all too commonplace, so it's about time one of the world's leading high-end speaker manufacturers, Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) joined the fray with its all-new system for Jaguar's gorgeous XF sedan. At a joint press event last week in New York City Jaguar and Bowers & Wilkins showed an advance prototype of the 2008 XF model.
Unlike most car audio/auto manufacturer relationships where the audio supplier is forced to work with the "leftover" spaces to place its speakers and electronics, Bower & … Read more
The Discovery Channel airs a one-hour special this Saturday night, October 6, about the incredibly rare and classic cars in Ralph Lauren's collection. Didn't know Ralph Lauren was a car collector? He has more interests than designing clothes, and in this special you will get to see cars from a collection that's usually kept far from the public eye.
Among our favorites is the 1929 Blower Bentley because, according to Ian Fleming's books, it was what James Bond drove. The Blower Bentley is a big touring car with a 4.5 liter engine. Blower refers to … Read more
The XF replaces the S-Type--and not a minute too soon. This new sedan from Jaguar represents the company's new design language, first seen in the Jaguar XK Coupe. The XF goes even more high tech, with a dial shifter for its automatic transmission and vents that hide when not in use. The navigation and music interface is particularly nice, and shows that the car has iPod and USB drive integration.
We were surprised that Jaguar got its production XF ready in time for the 2007 Frankfurt auto show, as the c-XF concept was just unveiled at last season's auto shows. Concept to production usually takes a couple of years, and you lose most of the cooler features from the concept. But not in the case of the Jaguar XF. Even though its exterior received plenty of criticism on the Internet for being too bland once photos were released, the production XF looks just like its concept predecessor. The XF is the first sedan in Jaguar's new design language, … Read more
Jaguar is going to use next month's Frankfurt auto show to officially unveil its 2009 XF midsize sedan, but images and specs on the latest Big Cat were released today. Based on the Jaguar C-XF concept that we saw in Detroit earlier this year, the XF comes with four engine choices, including a supercharged V-8, as well as some advanced cabin and drive-train technology. Check out our gallery of the '09 Jaguar XF here.
For our latest CNET Car Tech test, I'm sitting in the back of a 2007 Jaguar Super V8, writing this blog from the comfort of executive class seating. My driver is Car Tech editor Kevin Massy, who is enjoying the power afforded by the supercharged 4.2-liter V-8. I have my laptop perched on the picnic table, which folds down from the back of the front seat. It's not the most stable setup, especially with Kevin hitting the throttle hard when the traffic lights turn green, but now we're on the freeway, and things have smoothed out … Read more
It's difficult to describe the smell of boiling brake fluid and barbecued brake discs. Or the sound of a BMW M6 being flogged to within an inch of its life, squealing for mercy as it hangs on to traction by the skin of its Z-rated rubber. We just got back from a day of track testing at California's Laguna Seca raceway, courtesy of the Western Automotive Journalist association, and can report it was by far the most enjoyable day's work we've done for a long time.
Among the cars up for grabs were many of the … Read more
In a concept car set to debut at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show (see our coverage beginning on January 7), Jaguar shows off its new concept, the C-XF. This car represents Jaguar's continuing process of reinventing itself, which started with the launch of its beautiful XK last year. The C-XF concept is a substantial departure from Jaguar's current lineup, although the car's designers claim to have been influenced by models from the 1950s. Given the concept's name, it might provide a clue to the look of Jaguar's all new XF, which launches next fall and … Read more
