Firmware updated on Fujifilm S5 Pro

Fujifilm has released a firmware update to its 12MP FinePix S5 Pro DSLR camera. The update, version 1.12, corrects an issue where in some rare cases the camera may freeze up when PC controlling-software is used--this includes Fujifilm's own Hyper Utility HS-V3. Details can be found on Fujifilm's Web site.

We generally recommend installing the latest firmware updates for your camera, so you can get the most out of your gear. For more information on firmware updates for a specific camera, visit the manufacturer's Web site. Before installing any firmware upgrade, always take the time to … Read more

Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD lacking in photo quality, not features

The Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD can be had for as low as $219.99 (from a reputable dealer, no less). That's really cheap inexpensive when you start adding up its feature list, which includes a 15x f3.5-5.4 27.6-414mm-equivalent lens, optical image stabilization, a 2.7-inch LCD, as well as a 0.2-inch electronic viewfinder, 10-megapixel resolution, and the ability to capture HD video clips up to 15 minutes long at 1,280x720 (720p).

But its feature set isn't on par with its photo quality and that's where the S2000HD comes up short. That's not … Read more

Fujifilm brings 3D digicam system to the masses

Stereo cameras are capable of capturing 3D images, but they usually require additional accessories such as 3D glasses to view them in their full glory. Also, there are currently only film-based stereo shooters so there's the additional step of processing the negatives and printing them.

Fujifilm aims to eliminate all the hassle with the 3D FinePix Real 3D System it introduced at Photokina. The blueprint includes dual-imaging sensors that can simultaneously capture two pictures and process them with the company's newly developed RP (Real Photo) Processor 3D. The chip will analyze the two files and combine them into … Read more

Three more cameras from Fujifilm: the FinePix F60fd, FinePix J150w, and FinePix S2000HD

There's been a spate of new camera launches the past few weeks from Sony, Nikon, and Fujifilm who announced the U.S. launch of the FinePix Z200fd on July 31 and is now confirming the U.S. launch of the FinePix F60fd, FinePix J150w, and FinePix S2000HD (though the Canadians helped out a bit with this news on August 1).

The little, lightweight F60fd (2.3 by 3.6 by 0.9 inches (HWD); about 6 ounces) is--like much of its competition--overflowing with "useful" features to make shooting great pictures in any situation as simple as possible … Read more

Canadians out new ultrazoom Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD

While Fujifilm did announce the FinePix Z200fd compact Thursday, that was the beginning and the end of the new offerings for the U.S. But Fujifilm Canada didn't stop there, and pages for several new point-and-shoots, as well as a page for a new 10-megapixel ultrazoom, the FinePix S2000HD, showed up on the company's Web site Friday.

Fronted by a 15x optical zoom lens (F3.5 wide - F5.4 telephoto), the $300 (Canadian) dSLR-style camera also offers up the option to record Motion JPEGs at 720p (1,280x720). It's not exactly the design I'd want … Read more

Fujifilm FinePix Z200fd 'couple cam' debuts...again

We reported on the global announcement of the Z200fd back in May, but Thursday at 12:01 a.m. Fujifilm announced this slim, feature-packed camera for the U.S. You can read the full announcement and spec sheet on Fujifilm's press site.

It's actually--from a feature standpoint at least--an interesting read, giving you an idea of just what it takes to compete in this space. The hook for the Z200fd, for example, is its use of Couple and Group Timer modes that take advantage of Fujifilm's face-detection technology.

The Couple Timer takes the picture as the camera … Read more

Fujifilm playing Cupid: Get closer to snap

We thought we'd seen it all with face, smile, and even blink detection. But Fujifilm surprised us once more (after face detection 2.0) with the "Couple Timer" in its new FinePix Z200fd.

Apparently, this feature is used in conjunction with face detection to gauge how close the two faces are in the frame. Depending on how intimate you are to the other subject, you can change the setting on the point-and-shoot from one heart to three. When the camera sees that the subjects are close enough, it will snap a shot automatically.

Also a new feature … Read more

Fuji camera kickin' it old school at PMA

Check out this beauty from Fujifilm, a 6x7 medium format camera with a tres old school bellows collapsing lens and, wait for it, film! (6x7, by the way, refers to the size in centimeters of the negative, so a 6cm by 7cm is over four times as large as old 35mm negatives.)

I used to own a smaller version (645, or 6cm by 4.5cm) of one of their rangefinders and it was a beautiful machine (unfortunately stolen by someone who didn't realize what they had I'm quite sure). Fuji rangefinders have always been known for their second-to-none … Read more

Two new budget shooters from Fujifilm

Along with the several pricey, high-end cameras it unveiled today, Fujifilm announced two new budget-priced, ultracompact models. The FinePix J10 and the J50, two new sub-$200 shooters, are aimed squarely at more frugal users.

Though both cameras feature 8-megapixel sensors, they otherwise offer very different features. The ultraslim J10 measures three quarters of an inch at its thinnest part, and uses a 38 to 113mm-equivalent, f/2.8-5.2 3x zoom lens, and a 2.5-inch LCD screen. The J50 measures 0.9 inch across, but includes a 37 to 185mm-equivalent, f/3.2-5.2 5x zoom lens, and … Read more
