Finder crashes when folder containing certain JPEG images is opened

There is a problem some people are noticing with how their Snow Leopard installations handle some JPEG images. When these images are viewed using built-in image rendering technologies, the application presenting them will crash. This includes the Finder, which will quit and relaunch when a folder containing the files is opened and previews are rendered.… Read more

Close-up footage of plane-chopper crash hits Web

An NBC News video with footage of most of the midair collision between a plane and helicopter over the Hudson River last Saturday is available on YouTube.

An Italian tourist was trying to get accustomed to a new video camera during a tour boat cruise and focused his lens on the helicopter. The plane comes into view from behind the helicopter and then appears to clip the helicopter with its right wing.

Before the videographer stops shooting, the plane is recorded flipping over and apparently breaking up in a cloud of debris while both aircraft plunge toward the water. Be … Read more

Felipe Massa's Career-Threatening crash at Hungarian Grand Prix

Jimmie Johnson's victory at the Autism Speaks 400 wasn't the only big news coming from the racing world two weekends ago. The FIA Formula One World Championship held its annual Hungarian Grand Prix that same weekend, and while Lewis Hamilton picked up his first win of the 2009 season at this race, perhaps the biggest news concerned the horrific accident that befell Brazilian F1 driver Felipe Massa on July 25 while attempting to qualify for this championship race.

I was only able to locate one web video of the accident, and while it isn't of the highest … Read more

Jimmie Johnson's Famous Crash at Watkins Glen

So far this week, we've been checking out Jimmie Johnson and his winning ways during this year's Sprint Cup season. Well, there have been times in Jimmie's career wasn't as much of a winner. In this relic of a video I've featured today, Johnson was lucky to make it out of this alive after losing control of his car and crashing into a wall.

Prior to his career as a Sprint Cup driver, Jimmy raced in NASCAR's Busch Series. During a race at Watkins Glen in New York during the 2000 season, Johnson loses … Read more

Carjacker crashes not once, but twice!

Today's video blog features a carjacker who decides to run from the law anyway he can. At first, he takes a sedan from an unlucky motorist, and about a minute later, the driver crashes into a minivan on the freeway. Seeming undeterred, the carjacker runs across traffic and darts toward a pickup truck as the vehicle's driver flees in terror. Cops shooting at the truck seem not to phase this guy one bit, but soon enough he loses control of the vehicle and fishtails into another truck. Cop cars swarm then the area and make the arrest.

Police Chase Stretched Limo at 150 MPH!

In this second installment of some of the wildest police chase video, we go to Westchester County (just north of New York City, my old stomping grounds) where a police officer is in pursuit of a runaway limousine recklessly weaving around other vehicles and running from the law at up to 150 miles per hour. At around the 1:30 mark, the transmission blows on the limo and (this is the craziest part of the video) the driver begins running from the police IN REVERSE! Totally unbelievable driving...check it out!

Palm Pre: A Pre-tty disappointing start

With my Sprint contract running out and having been frustrated with my HTC Mogul--more like Windows Mobile 6--it was clearly time to upgrade.

Our smartphone senior editor Bonnie Cha pointed me in the direction of the Palm Pre since I was adamant about having a touch-screen and physical keyboard. I was also drawn to the Pre because of the new WebOS operation system and Synergy functionality.

After having waited in line for almost two hours outside a Sprint store in downtown Manhattan, I was thrilled to get home and start playing around with my new Palm Pre.

Earnhardt Jr., others in major Nascar wipeout

In my blog yesterday, I commented about an article I was reading on MSN.com about the need for heroes and villains in Nascar. In the article, Buddy Baker comments that the best way to become a "bad guy" in the world of Nascar is "Bumping Dale Earnhardt Jr.," who is genetic Nascar royalty (being the son of racing legend Dale Earnhardt Sr.).

I don't know if this wipeout officially made Brian Vickers a villain to Nascar fans, but I found this wild video of Vickers blocking Earnhardt at the 2009 Daytona 500, which led … Read more
