ISS astronaut previews Angry Birds Space while in space

Just how big is the Angry Birds franchise? So big it's literally out of this world.

Earlier today, Rovio released the following preview video for Angry Birds Space, the game sequel that's scheduled for liftoff on March 22.

In the video, NASA's Don Pettit demonstrates the flinging of an angry bird. In zero gravity. Aboard the International Space Station. It's equal parts cool and surreal.

And it begs the question: Just how much did Rovio pay NASA for this bit of orbital marketing? Whatever the sum, I think this is the first time we've seen … Read more

Samsung hopes Angry Birds Space will catapult Galaxy Note

Remember earlier this week when Samsung teased a special announcement at its South by Southwest booth in Austin, Texas? Well, it isn't the pink Samsung Galaxy Note.

Instead, Samsung says it will help Rovio launch the next wave of its blockbuster Angry Birds series, Angry Birds Space. Tomorrow at 4 p.m. CT, Samsung will offer hands-on demos of the game on the Samsung Galaxy Note.

The hope is clearly that lovers of the ornery ornithological critters will appreciate catapulting the squawkers on a large, 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED screen, thus earning a secondary appreciation for the device … Read more

Shoot rag dolls out of a cannon

Ragdoll Blasters 3 is the third installment in the popular physics puzzle series, and this sequel is a solid offering with plenty for puzzle gaming fans. Like the first two Ragdoll Blasters, the game concept is simple: on each level, aim your cannon and fire the rag doll to hit the target. Of course it's never quite that easy; you'll also want to grab buttons for extra points, and maps provide plenty of obstacles to make it hard to get a perfect three-star score.

As the third game in a popular series, you would expect the game to … Read more

Angry Birds CEO sees opportunity in piracy

With hundreds of millions of downloads of Angry Birds, one would think that Rovio would do everything in its power to fight piracy.

But, that's not the case.

At the Midem conference in Cannes today, Rovio CEO Mikael Hed announced, "Piracy may not be a bad thing: it can get us more business at the end of the day."

The Guardian reports that Hed was addressing an audience mainly from the music industry and said he looks to the music industry's mistakes in dealing with piracy. The chief lesson that Hed said he learned is that … Read more
