There are all sorts of ways to become a star in L.A.
Some don't involve debasing yourself. Many do.
So please decide whether you find sympathy or laughter at the sight of a woman parting company with her equilibrium in an L.A. Apple store.
Courtesy of a Vine posted by actress Porscha Coleman, we see the lady experiencing the frustrations of not having an appointment at the Genius Bar.
As this Vine has wafted about the Web, many have laughed.
But isn't this an everyday occurrence in retail?… Read more
Initial orders of Google's brand new Chromecast wireless video-streaming dongle are now gone, though some users are still having luck getting one.

Shortly after sales went up, it was listed to ship between August 2 and August 7, down from the 1-2 days for initial orders.
The device's availability has fluctuated throughout the early hours it was on sale. … Read more
Apple is set to release an updated version of its Apple Store app for the iPhone and iPod Touch on Tuesday that will promote content from the App Store, the iTunes Store, and the iBookstore, with some of it free for a limited time, a report says.
Blog 9to5 Mac cites an unnamed source in reporting that the new app has been tweaked to be more in keeping with the interfaces of the iOS 6 versions of the three aforementioned content apps and to promote those apps. It's also, of course, meant to juice direct-from-Apple sales of the iPhone and other hardware.… Read more
Android users definitely get the better deal when it comes to the Pebble watch. The "openness" of Android allows for developers to piggyback on other services and products, such as Pebble and come up with some handy uses.
While browsing Google Play, scrolling through the long list of apps developers have made to integrate with Pebble, I found an app called Pebble Rocker.
This app is more like the Swiss Army knife of Pebble apps, as it adds a lot of different functions to the Pebble watch from one place. After buying the app for just under $1 … Read more
The police report makes for difficult reading.
What seems evident is that a woman walked into an Apple store in Boca Raton, Fla., on Tuesday and tried to go into the men's restroom.
An employee explained that perhaps the men's restroom wasn't entirely appropriate for her. She found the women's restroom, then walked around the store, until she entered a storage area.
Again, an employee suggested she might have taken a wrong turn. At which point she allegedly opened her hoodie and revealed an object strapped to her chest.
If This Then That (IFTTT) is a free service that helps you connect unrelated apps and services across the Web. As we've shown you in the past, you're able to get really creative with recipes.
On Thursday IFTTT released its official app, IFTTT for iPhone, for free in the App Store. Until today, the only way for users to create, edit and share recipes was by visiting IFTTT.com. With the app, users will have all of the same options and features found on the Web site, but in addition to the services integrated with the site, users … Read more
When Apple booted discovery app AppGratis from its App Store in April, it was a sharp reminder to iOS developers: don't mess with Apple's rankings or suffer the consequences.
In this case, the app, which offered a free or discounted app each day on Apple's App Store to 10 million users, reportedly gamed the system by pushing its partners' apps to the top of Apple's charts. Apple cried foul, complaining that the app violated two of its policies, including a newly-minted rule warning that any apps promoting other apps "in a manner similar to or … Read more
What a difference five years makes.
Apple's App Store has a lot to brag about as it celebrates its fifth birthday on Wednesday. Over the last half decade, it helped fully realize the Swiss army-capabilities of the smartphone, which could do far more than make phone calls and browse the Internet. While not the first, it set the standard for mobile application marketplaces to come. The best part: it made apps accessible to everyone.
"Nothing like the App Store existed before and it has fundamentally changed the world," Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said last month, describing … Read more
One of the things Apple discussed and demoed during its Worldwide Developers Conference in June was a new feature, Control Center, coming in iOS 7. This feature is the first time Apple has brought quick access to frequently used device settings. Once iOS 7 is released this fall, users will be able to swipe up from the bottom of any screen to activate Control Center and then toggle Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and screen rotation, plus plenty more settings and features.
Android has no shortage of methods of accessing device settings from any screen, but that doesn't stop developers from getting … Read more
