My Favorite Cars, Pt. 3: The Ferrari 308 GTB

When I started brainstorming this week's series of blogs dedicated to my most favorite cars that I've never owned, I drifted back to my childhood. I remembered watching "Magnum P.I.," and while I never cared for the show (or Tom Selleck's porn-stache, for that matter), I did think he had a hot car to chase the bad guys in. Then I also remembered the '80s flick "Cannonball Run," and how Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr. sped across the country in a fire-engine-red Ferrari with T-Tops while dressed like priests. So I … Read more

Ferrari has never looked like this

The hard-top convertible Ferrari California has more junk in the trunk, but is still a super car. A reviewer for the U.K.'s Fifth Gear takes the California for a road test on some European hairpin back roads.

The car debuted at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. It boasts a front-mounted eight-cylinder engine to pull the extra weight in the back.

Krell's $65,000 heavy-metal speaker flies high!

Krell's Modulari Duo Reference speakers make other speaker manufacturers cry.

Well, not exactly weep, but while I was reviewing these incredible speakers an executive from a respected American speaker company dropped by my apartment. To say he was bowled over by the mighty Krells is an understatement; he couldn't take his eyes off them. Then he ran his fingers over the exquisitely machined metalwork and asked to play a couple of tunes. Talk about shock and awe; he said, "They're $65,000? [EXPLETIVE DELETED], they're really good!" I've never seen one manufacturer so visibly shaken by another's wares.

The Krell Modulari Duo Reference has that sort of effect on people. Even folks who couldn't care less about high-end audio "get" these speakers. The sound all but reaches out and grabs your most sensitive parts and shakes them. My full review is in Home Entertainment magazine. … Read more

Ferrari Virtual Race won't win Game of the Year, but it may kill your afternoon as you zip around the track in your dream car.

Driving is fairly straightforward, with standard keyboard controls. Cameras, (two chase cameras, hoop, cockpit and bumper) can be changed on … Read more

Free Ferrari video game provides cheap thrills

I finally found something useful on Twitter. Ferrari is offering a free downloadable video game for PCs on their Web site (thanks @GTChannel).

In Ferrari Virtual Race, players can choose a car from a lineup of Ferraris, consisting of the 599 GTB Fiorano, 612 Scaglietti, and 430 Scuderia. Gamers can customize their selected car in the Atelier to get it race ready, and test their driving skills on the Mugello circuit.

For the moment, players race against the computer. However, Ferrari plans to release an online version that enables people to compete against friends over the Internet.

High-performance GT cars abound in Geneva (photos)

GT cars, the stuff that posters on the walls of high school boys' bedrooms are made of, made a strong showing at the 2009 Geneva auto show, with new examples from Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Lamborghini, among others. The variety we found at the show included standard gas engines, hybrids, and full electric versions, and all boast astounding performance figures.

Acer Ferrari laptop certainly looks fast

Its unique ventilation design echoes the exhaust pipes of an F1 car and the anodized-metal interface resembles the gas and brake pedals of a high performance supercar. A tasteful wave pattern embellishes the exterior, while the soft-touch coating and the velvety texture of the interior ensure ergonomic comfort. It has a carbon fiber hood that's lighter, yet stronger than magnesium alloy, which is finished with an iconic yellow prancing pony badge.

No, I'm not describing a special edition of the Ferrari 599 GTB, rather these floury descriptors are paraphrased from a news release announcing the next Acer laptop, … Read more

Photos: Luxury cars over 200 grand

There are luxury brands--Mercedes-Benz and Lexus come to mind--then there are luxury brands, cars with the leather from a herd of cows and wood from a whole forest. Spyker, Ferrari, and Bentley all showed off hand-crafted cars at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. These cars feature beautiful and unique styling, high-performance engines and driving gear, advanced cabin tech, and prestigious brand names.
