Speck releases new case line for Samsung Galaxy S3

A lot of companies have jumped on the case bandwagon for the freshly released Samsung Galaxy III (S3), and Speck, known for its wide assortment of iPhone cases, is out of the gate with three different styles.

The PixelSkin HD ($29.95) and FabShell ($34.95), which has a fabric back and comes in multiple designs, are on sale already, while the CandyShell ($34.95) is due to hit soon.

I got my hands on an early sample of the CandyShell and it offers Speck's typically eye-catching glossy finish and a slim, snug fit. I like it, but at $… Read more

iBattz Armor: Another extended-battery iPhone tough case arrives

A few weeks back, I wrote about how Mophie was coming out with the Juice Pack Pro, a rugged version of its extended-battery case for the iPhone 4/4S. Now iBattz has unveiled the Mojo Armor, its spin on a ultraprotective extended-battery case.

Compared with theJuice Pack Pro's integrated 2,500 mAh battery (that more than doubles the battery life of your iPhone), the iBattz includes two swappable 1700 mAh battery modules, which brings its total up to 3400 mAh. iBattz says it's, "shock, drop, dust, splash and child-proof." It comes in black, gray, or purple. … Read more

Pong Research iPad case claims to boost wireless reception

What do you expect from your iPad case? Simple protection? Maybe a built-in stand for hands-free reading and movie watching?

Pong Research has you covered, and then some. The company's New iPad Case not only protects and props up your tablet, but also increases 3G and Wi-Fi signal strength and reduces radiation exposure.

If that sounds familiar, you might be thinking of the Pong Research iPhone case that debuted last fall. It, too, promised protection against RF energy emissions.

Of course, the debate rages on as to whether those emissions are harmful to humans. But here's the thing: … Read more

Apple debuts front-and-back iPad Smart Case

As anyone who bought an iPad Smart Cover knows it doesn't protect the back of your iPad. But now Apple is giving iPad owners an official Apple case that offers both front and back protection: the iPad Smart Case.

The Smart Case retails for $49, comes in six colors, and is compatible with the iPad 2 and the new iPad. At launch, there's no deluxe leather option; this one's made from polyurethane.

Here's what Apple has to say about it:

The iPad Smart Case covers your iPad -- both front and back -- yet still retains … Read more

Best Kindle Fire cases and covers

Like the e-ink Kindles and iPads before it, Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet has launched a cottage industry of cases and covers.

In trying to boil down the best of what's currently out there, I decided to take a stand -- so to speak -- and select mostly cases and covers that convert into a stand.… Read more

Green Mesh open-air PC case is magically dust-free

TAIPEI, Taiwan--We stumbled upon YoungYear Electronics' new fanless PC case made of mesh here at Computex and did a double take. Instead of being fully enclosed, with fan ports for proper airflow, the Green Mesh Computer Case does away with all that in favor of an open-air approach. It looks nothing like your usual PC chassis.

That's right. There's nothing to stop the dust from accumulating inside the case, not even a filter. But according to the Taiwanese manufacturer of power supply units (PSUs), this open-air design is actually the reason dust will not magically accumulate inside the case. In fact, the company claims it will have three to four times less dust than a normal PC tower. … Read more

Official 'Star Wars' iPhone cases coming soon to our galaxy

At the E3 Expo yesterday, accessory maker PowerA announced a new line of officially licensed Star Wars iPhone cases.

Now, depending on your age, your overall level of geekiness, and the chronology of your initial exposure to "Star Wars," this will probably prompt one of the following reactions:

1. "Ohmigod-ohmigod-ohmigod!"

2. "Cool! On second thought, which 'Star Wars' are we talking about: prequels or original?"

3. "Sorry, but I'm so disgusted with George Lucas that I no longer consider myself a fan."

I must admit I'm in the third category. … Read more

Is Monoprice's $5.28 PS Vita case a steal?

If you've shopped around for a case for your PlayStation Vita, you probably know that they can get pretty pricey. In fact, I recently wrote about WaterField Designs' Vita cases, which are sweet but retail for upward of $50.

Shifting gears, I decided to go the budget route and checked out Monoprice's $5.28 Brushed Aluminum Clamshell case in silver (alas, that price doesn't include shipping, which brings the total up to $7.82).

The verdict? … Read more

Mophie gets tough with Juice Pack Pro iPhone 4/4S case

Think of Mophie's new Juice Pack Pro as an Otterbox case that's packing a 2,500 mAh battery that more than doubles the battery life of your iPhone 4 or 4S.

Mophie would probably argue that the Juice Pack Pro is actually tougher than an Otterbox case. It's touting its first ruggedized battery pack case as exceeding military specification MIL-STD 810G, which is pretty tough.

That said, the case is water-resistant but not totally waterproof (it can't go underwater). It has a built-in screen protector and comes with a rotating belt clip. According to Mophie, that … Read more

KudoCase: Solar ink powers iPad for 10 days

The sun is busy powering all sort of devices these days. There's a solar plane, a solar keyboard, and a solar Apple data center. Solar iPad and iPhone cases have been around, but they often require a fair amount of sunshine to make them work well.

The KudoCase from Kudo is taking a slightly different approach. As far as the KudoCase is concerned, sunlight is nice, but indoor light will do just fine.

Kudo claims that your iPad can go 10 days, with 2 hours of iPad use per day with average light. That's all a little vague, but it's also plenty intriguing. I usually plug my iPad in for a recharge every two days. It would be nice to extend that time a bit.… Read more
