Today the carrier announced its new Voicemail Max program, which will enable customers to personalize their outgoing voice-mail greetings with the voices of actors, comedians, celebrity impersonators, and musical artists. Among the available content is voice clips from such luminaries as Larry the Cable Guy, Steve Harvey, Orlando Jones, T.I., and popular voices from the cast of Reno 911!. Though that's not the most A-list list … Read more
A recently spotted ad on HowardForums points at the possibility of a new LG slider coming out for Alltel, and it's called the Glimmer. Engadget calls it a combination of the LG Shine and the LG Viewty, which sounds about right. It promises a 2.8-inch touch-screen display, a slider keypad, a 2.0-megapixel camera, a microSD slot, Bluetooth, and EV-DO. And since it's called the Glimmer, we expect it to be one very shiny and eye-catching device as well. No official news from Alltel or LG just yet, but the ad looks pretty legit, so we should … Read more

The eagle eyed folks over at Engadget Mobile spotted this blue LG Rumor over at the LG booth and discovered that it is indeed the Alltel version of the LG Rumor, rebranded as the LG Scoop. We also went down to check the LG Scoop out, and it is indeed almost exactly the same as the Sprint version, complete with the hidden slide-out QWERTY keyboard and the 1.3-megapixel camera. No pricing and availability as yet, but it looks like the Scoop will come in both blue and orange.

And here I thought Alltel's commercials were bad. As I prepared to review the Motorola Rokr Z6m I was scrolling through the phone's available wallpapers to see what it offered. After passing by the standard options that come with any Alltel or Motorola handset, I found a wallpaper that stopped me cold.
In the middle of a blue sunburst pattern was an animated figure of the blue-shirted spokesman from Alltel's grating commercials. The wallpaper shows "Chad" (as he is called) gyrating away to some unheard music. Though I can't put my finger on exactly … Read more
Alltel landed itself a slick new cell phone today: the Motorola Rokr Z6m. A music-focused feature set gives the Z6m the Rokr name, but it is really just another Moto Rizr. It has the same (but still attractive) slider phone shape. Verizon Wireless released the nearly identical Moto Z6tv last month, but as its name suggests, that model is centered more on television.
Features on the Rokr Z6m include an MP3 player, a 2-megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, an expandable memory slot, support for TeleNav's GPS application, and a standard 3.5mm headset jack. The phone is now on sale … Read more
After the iPhone debut, the launch of the Motorola Razr2 has been the biggest cell phone news of the summer. We've reviewed AT&T's Razr2 V9 and both the Verizon Wireless and Sprint versions of the Razr2 V9m, so now we turn our attention to the V9m with Alltel. Like its siblings, Alltel's handset offers a slick, stylish design and a host of high-end multimedia features. Of course, this being a Razr2, Alltel customized the handset's external display and added its own features, like its Celltop application and support for TeleNav GPS. It's not … Read more
