The closest thing we've got to a Nintendo Wii U launch list

A lot was learned at the Nintendo Wii U preview event in New York this morning, but surprisingly enough, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime did not deliver a definitive launch list of Wii U titles available alongside the console on November 18.

Instead, much to the attending crowd's chagrin, Fils-Aime said "it's still a little too early to guarantee exactly which games will be here for you on launch day itself and which will come shortly thereafter." Mind you, the "launch window" Fils-Aime is referring to spans from November 18, 2012, all the way to March 31, 2013.… Read more

OAuth 2.0 leader resigns, says standard is 'bad'

OAuth 2.0 promised to improve authentication on the Net, but its author has resigned from the project after concluding the standard "is a bad protocol."

"When compared with OAuth 1.0, the 2.0 specification is more complex, less interoperable, less useful, more incomplete, and most importantly, less secure," Eran Hammer-Lahav said in a blog post yesterday. "I resigned my role as lead author and editor, [withdrew] my name from the specification, and left the working group...Deciding to move on from an effort I have led for over five years was agonizing." … Read more

Iron Portable Browser

Iron Portable from PortableApps is a fully functional browser that its makers tout as the browser of the future. The browser is based on the same Chromium source code as the Google Chrome browser, but it doesn't have the unique IDs, time stamps, and other components that allow user tracking and other privacy-compromising functionality.

The browser presents a simple no-nonsense interface and is used just like any other browser. Chrome users will note the obvious similarities between the two browsers. In fact, since they're based on the same code, they have compatible add-ons and extensions as well as … Read more

Best waterproof rugged cameras and camcorders compared

The number of waterproof rugged cameras has exploded over the past few years. The segment was basically owned by Pentax and Olympus, but now all of the major compact camera manufacturers have a rugged model, if not two or three.

The upside to that is there is something for just about everyone at various price points, starting at just more than $100. The more money you spend, the tougher the camera, though, so make sure you get something that meets your needs.

And if you're more interested in shooting video than photos, check out the two minicamcorders that follow the camera list. … Read more
