But, as we've found many times at Download.com, a third-party developer sometimes designs a way of doing things that trumps what you find in OS X. Default Folder X adds a fairly simple tool bar to open and save dialog boxes that adds fast access to often-used folders, and other nifty tricks like zoomable previews in your open dialog boxes.
