Buy a painting, fund a craving

Of all the ideas you wish you had, this one's probably way up there.

The idea behind Wants for Sale is simple, but that's what makes it absolute genius. New York artists Christine and Justin simply paint pictures of the things they want. Then, they sell those paintings for exactly the same price as what those objects cost.

The artists' tech "wants" include a Guitar Hero controller (the painting costs $64.98), an iPhone ($649.17), and, uh, chicken wings ($12.70).

Via e-mail, you can even submit the stuff that you want. If Christine and … Read more

Japanese porn industry extends welcoming tentacle to Blu-ray

They haven't put out a press release about it or anything, but the signs are pointing to a decisive victory of Blu-ray over archrival HD DVD when it comes to the Japanese smut industry. A PC World article writes that Sony, manufacturer of the Blu-ray Disc, has been offering more technical support to Japan's adult film companies. At the Adult Treasure Expo 2007 in Chibo, Japan, filmmakers attested to this and said that it's no longer as difficult for them to find mass production outlets.

In the U.S., HD DVD has an edge in the porn … Read more

Hello Kitty wants to suck up your savings

You might've thought the World of Warcraft credit card was pushing it, but really, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

Upon encountering the Hello Kitty Platinum Plus Visa on ThisNext, I initially thought it had to be a joke. But, no, a quick amount of Googling revealed that it's legitimate. Sanrio really does offer a Hello Kitty credit card, so that you can hop around the world in search of all things pink and shiny. Now, not only will the ubiquitous cat be telling you that you're fat or making you toast, but she'll also be … Read more

Wii dominates iPhone in crane game war

The iPhone is one of the most lusted-after gadgets, but if the size of their respective crane games is any indicator, the Nintendo Wii is still the most coveted tech--at least on the Point Pleasant Boardwalk at the Jersey Shore. When I saw the iPhone crane game images on JoeyGadget last week (via Gizmodo), I couldn't help but think of my own summer Jersey Shore trip a few weeks ago, where I saw this incredibly large Wii crane game. While the Wii game clearly dominates in size, the iPhone game costs more per play--$5 per try for an iPhone and only $2 per try for a Wii. I also spotted some Xbox 360 and PS3 crane games during my visit, but they were the same size as the iPhone game and didn't get front-of-the-arcade treatment like the Wii game. And as you'd probably guess, I didn't see anyone come close to actually winning a Wii.

Bluetooth soccer ball brings the noise

Musician and inventor Aleksei R. Stevens has created a concept product called the SoundBall. The SoundBall is a soccer ball that is filled with motion sensors that detect when the ball is being rolled, dropped, kicked, or spun. The motion data is then transmitted over Bluetooth to a local computer that bleeps out corresponding electronic noises.

My guess is that he's got some kind of Arduino or Parallax board inside the ball and Cycling '74 Max/MSP music software running on his computer. Whatever he's using, it looks like a fun way to kill some time and annoy … Read more

Make your own LED fridge magnets

Junior's artwork looks great on the fridge, but it would look even better next to a full-on light show.

If you've ever wanted to turn your fridge into a big ol' Lite Brite, you're in luck. Thanks to this tutorial on the excellent and addictive Instructables site, it's easier than ever.

Socks vending machine is quite a feat

As a wise woman once said, "Socks rock." Most people never leave home without a pair of socks, at least if they're wearing shoes.

But just in case, the Gallo stockings vending machine allows anyone to protect their feet from the inside of their shoes in a pinch.

The psychedelic Italian vending machine dispenses a wide array of absorbent footwear, perfect for yuletide emergencies, ad-hoc puppetry sessions, or avoiding fashion police busts.

Unfortunately, seeing and using the machine could lead to a frustrating infinite loop.

1. You see the machine.

2. It blows your socks off.

What does Lindsay Lohan have to do with 'Wii Fit'?

Nothing, actually. But I think this is pretty funny nonetheless.

As we've all heard over and over and over again by our faithful news media, troubled actress Lindsay Lohan was arrested on Tuesday night for driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, and cocaine possession. (Last we heard, she said the coke wasn't hers.) Another day, another celebrity party-girl drug bust--same old, same old. But for those of us who went to the E3 Media and Business Summit in Santa Monica earlier this month, this one was particularly funny because the intersection where Lohan was arrested--Main … Read more
