Steekr: Another virtual drive service

Steekr is a new online storage service with automated backup software for both Windows and Mac. Users get a gigabyte to store whatever they want. Steekr is a sibling product to SteekUp, parent company Agematis' business-centric backup service that gives customers 100GB with a paid subscription. Zoho preps another Web app: Notebook

There are several Web start-ups that I see over and over again at new-tech conferences but none that launch a new product at each show. That's certainly what it feels like Zoho does. "Look, it's another conference! Let's launch another product."

8apps: Productivity and social networking come together

8apps is a suite of Web-based collaboration applications. It's got the look and feel of a site made for casual users but is aimed at small groups who need a place to get business and social networking done in the same place.

Right now there are only three applications to play around with, (Handshake, Orchestrate, and Blueprint) but five more are due out by this fall. The eventual goal is to have eight applications that can be used and managed from one place, kind of like what you get with Zoho's offerings, but more experimental.

Omnidrive integrates, simplifies Zoho docs

We covered Omnidrive back in November, and at the time the service had promise but no real partnership with Web apps that would bring it all together. Today, Omnidrive was updated to integrate several of Zoho's online applications. First up is support for Zoho Writer, the browser-based word processor. Next week will see added support for Zoho Sheet and Zoho Show, effectively allowing users to manage Zoho office documents without having to leave the Omnidrive interface.

Zoho fills Office vacancy

Zoho wasted no time filling the gap that Microsoft left between its new Office software and the Web. There's no online version of Office 2007; nor has Redmond built a bridge for consumers to quickly migrate desktop files to an online folder for anywhere-access.

But now, if you spend a minute to download this free plug-in for Office, you'll get no-brainer buttons within Word and Excel that save work to Zoho's servers. Zoho's buttons show up within the Add-Ins tab on the Office 2007 Ribbon toolbar.
