A deal that previously was thought to have fizzled may be heating back up. Verizon is reportedly in buyout talks with Vodafone once again, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
Sources familiar with the matter told the Journal that Verizon is currently reaching out to banks about loans of tens of billions of dollars for the deal.
Verizon Wireless, which is jointly owned by Verizon and Vodafone, has for years sought to buy out Vodafone's stake in the company. Meanwhile Vodafone has agitated for a better return from the fast-growing asset.
Over the past few months, it appeared that … Read more
The Hoop Tracker is a different kind of smartwatch. Instead of talking to your smartphone, it talks to a lever that sits inside a basketball hoop and registers whether or not a shot has gone in.
The shot detector has a handle that allows you to attach it magnetically inside any standard basketball hoop. When the ball goes in, the detector registers it as a successful shot and sends the information to the watch. You then can track your improvements from various locations on the court over time.… Read more
Word has it that Amazon may be jumping on the wireless Internet service bandwagon. According to Bloomberg, sources familiar with the matter say that the e-commerce giant is testing a new spectrum wireless network in Cupertino, Calif.
The rumored Amazon network would reportedly be controlled by satellite communications company Globalstar, according to Bloomberg. Globalstar is said to be looking to switch 80 percent of its spectrum to terrestrial use; this means the wireless network could hold more traffic and drive faster speeds than conventional Wi-Fi.
If Amazon ran its own wireless network, it would give the company a chance to … Read more
The Droid Ultra's $199.99 price and even its very existence baffles me. Standing smack dab in between the affordable $99.99 Droid Mini and pricey $299.99 Droid Maxx, the only reason to choose the Ultra is either because you value trimness above all else, or don't care to spend $100 more for the Maxx's massive battery and 32GB of storage. The Ultra's limited 16GB of internal memory also makes it less enticing than other superphones such as the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4.

AT&T has been working hard to improve its customer service and purchase experience. And it looks like the hard work is paying off.

In the consumer purchase poll, AT&T scored high both in the experience of buying a phone and mobile service in its retail locations as well as online. Two years ago, AT&T ranked last with respect … Read more
Verizon might not be entering the Canadian market as soon as expected.
The company has decided to put off acquiring Canada-based wireless carriers Wind and Mobilicity, The Globe and Mail is reporting, citing people who claim to have knowledge of its plans. Verizon, which was reportedly looking to acquire the companies this year, has decided to wait to see how it fares in the wireless spectrum auction Canada is holding in January, the Globe and Mail claims.

The HTC One could be one step closer to reaching Verizon subscribers.
The carrier now has a page where potential buyers can sign up to get the latest information about HTC's flagship phone. The page doesn't indicate an exact date of when the phone will be available -- only that it will be available "later this summer," which is consistent with reports in early June. Assuming that promise still holds, the phone would have to appear in Verizon's lineup sometime within the next few weeks.
Verizon's competitors -- namely AT&T, Sprint, and … Read more
Verizon customers with an eye on Nokia's Lumia 928 can now pick up the phone for free.
Initially selling for $99, the phone's price was chopped to zero on Monday. Verizon naturally requires the usual two-year contract.
But before you get ready to sign a deal, Verizon's Web site currently says the phone is temporarily out of stock. CNET contacted the carrier to see when the phone might be available again online and if and where consumers can find it at Verizon retail stores.
