More photos of PlayStation phone leaked?

Sony's as-yet-unannounced PlayStation phone could be one of the worst-kept secrets in the technology industry.

Just a couple of days after images of what appears to be a PlayStation phone leaked on a Hong Kong forum, several more photos have been published on a Chinese Web site, called IT168.

The images appear to show a PlayStation phone in full working condition. According to Engadget, which first discovered the leak, the device in the images features a 4-inch touch display, 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash, a microSD slot, and a micro-USB port, among other features.

Angry Birds crashing into PSP, PS3 this week

The Angry Birds, and their hated egg-stealing pigs, are coming to the PlayStation Network this week, according to Sony's official PlayStation blog, which means they're also coming to the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3 consoles.

The insanely popular game--which is currently available for the iPhone, iPad, and Android devices, had been said to be heading to consoles, and it seemed like a no-brainer to send them there.

Rovio's title will be downloadable for the PSP and likely the PS3, as most (but not all) of the "mini" games work on both. No word on pricing … Read more

Sony chief hints PSP with touch screen on the way

Sony's PlayStation Portable could be in for a serious makeover.

Speaking to The New York Times yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment chief Kaz Hirai said that the next PSP could boast both a touch screen and conventional controls to give casual and hard-core gamers the opportunity to play titles in a way they prefer.

"Depending on the game, there are ones where you can play perfectly well with a touch panel," Hirai told the Times. "But you can definitely play immersive games better with physical buttons and pads. I think there could be games where you're … Read more

GameStop VP: PSP 'a disappointment' in 2010

When pressed to find a disappointment in the gaming space this year, GameStop senior vice president of merchandising and marketing, Bob McKenzie, pointed to Sony's PSP.

"If I were to pick a disappointment, the only thing would be looking at the number of titles that launched on the PSP format compared to the prior year," McKenzie told video game publication Eurogamer in a recent interview. "I think Sony did a great job two years ago in terms of coming out with a pretty good lineup of PSP offerings, and I didn't see that breadth of … Read more

The 404 696: Where Jeff does the chair dance (podcast)

On Jeff's last day on The 404 before he gets married, Justin unfortunately is out sick, but we've got something better! Ms. Natali Del Conte fills in, and we talk about life after getting married. Jeff admits he'll miss his days as a single guy. Don't worry, though, we'll be around to make sure he gets into enough trouble with his soon-to-be wife.

We do get into some tech stories today, and if you can't tell from the giant picture above, it's about the PSP Phone... or PlayStation Phone. Whatever it's called, we can't really figure out whether the photo, which was leaked on Engadget last night, is legit. It looks like it could be a Photoshop job, as there is nothing about the user interface that says PlayStation. But Jeff wonders out loud whether the oval-shapped indentions in the middle are really analog joysticks? And Natali wonders what's a analog joystick again?

After that, we get into some more Cablevision versus Fox outrage, which has stirred up a lot of questions from non-geeks these days because of the World Series. Scores of people in the Tri-State area are desperately trying to find ways to catch the games, which are still blocked from Cablevision customers. Jeff and Natali literally go on a tirade, while Wilson wants to know how this affects the debate about Net neutrality. (Wilson doesn't subscribe to cable video.)

Finally, we get to some voice mails about how Wilson dresses the best... strange. Maybe it's because he has a larger wardrobe that has more variety than black or flannel shirts? And we also get to a video voice mail from the self-proclaimed 404 Grandpa. Keep those video voice mails or video mails or video mails voices coming!

PSP2 with rear touchpad could be due in 2011

With the PSP Go pretty much a no-go in terms of sales, Sony has been rather quiet on the portable game console front. But now, the rumor mills are astir with actual sightings of a new PSP2 for late 2011 that will feature a touchpad on the rear.

According to the lucky eyewitnesses who have seen the upcoming device, the touch panel resembles "a big mouse trackpad" that will allow users to control their game alongside dual analog sticks.

With everything going HD these days, we can expect the PSP2 screen to be no less than high-definition. It'… Read more

Report: Panasonic working on gaming handheld

After failing in the gaming business in the mid-1990s with its 3DO console, Panasonic is making its way back to the industry, reports claim.

According to CrunchGear, which first reported the story this week, Panasonic is building a portable gaming device, called the Jungle, that would compete with Nintendo's DS and Sony's PlayStation Portable.

Images on CrunchGear show a clamshell boasting a large display, as well as a touch pad and keyboard on the bottom half of the device.

That isn't proof that the device is definitely coming, but Reuters reported today that it has spoken to … Read more
