Ownership change may revive two small Porsches

Now that it's owned by Volkswagen, Porsche reportedly is planning two small vehicles that the German sports car maker's previous management had nixed.

Porsche is expected to increase the size of its Boxster roadster, leaving room at the bottom of the range for a smaller midengine car engineered jointly with Volkswagen. A small SUV also is likely to be added.

Plug-in hybrid versions of the Panamera four-door sedan and Cayenne SUV also are part of a plan to increase Porsche's worldwide sales to 150,000 vehicles in the next few years.

Porsche to unveil the 911 Speedster at the Paris Motor Show

The 911 Speedster, inspired by the 356 Speedster, will be making its debut at the Paris Motor Show.

Porsche just released photos and specs on the 2011 911 Speedster. The limited-edition two-seat roadster will have a run of 356 units worldwide, with only about 100 heading to the U.S.

Inspired by the 1953 356, the Speedster features a double-bubble hardcover for the manual soft top. It only comes in Pure Blue, but on special request, customers can get Carrera White.

The Speedster boasts a 3.8-liter flat six engine, which delivers 408 horsepower (23 more horsepower than the 911 … Read more

Classic Porsches getting OEM navigation option

If you're the owner and regular driver of a classic Porsche vehicle, chances are that cabin tech doesn't rank very high on your list of must-have features. However, those who would like a little high technology in their low-tech chariots traditionally have had to make do without or hack together aftermarket navigation and stereo systems that just cramp their old-school style. For these faithful few owners, Porsche is making available the Porsche Classic Radio Navigation System (Part No. 911 645 910 00).

The unit features modern guts--including a GPS navigation system, presumably upgraded audio sources and amplification, and … Read more

On Road Trip, a thumbs-up for Porsche's Panamera

After more than 5,200 miles of driving Porsche's new Panamera around the East Coast this summer on Road Trip 2010, I think I've developed a pretty good sense of what it's like to hang out with a celebrity.

Everywhere I went in the Panamera, Porsche's first-ever four-door coupe, people wanted to talk about it. From tollbooth workers to folks in big box store parking lots to blue bloods in fancy neighborhoods to guys hawking water on the hot streets of Baltimore, everyone had a question or a comment about the car, or a thumbs-up as … Read more

Pimp my Panamera

If 500 horsepower seems a little miserly of Porsche for its Panamera Turbo, don't worry--the carmaker released its personalization program that bumps up the horsepower to 540. But the additional 40 ponies over the standard Turbo model don't come cheap--the Panamera Turbo Powerkit runs about $21,730.

For the money, you'll get two new turbochargers with titanium aluminum turbines, engine management modifications that improve engine response, and increased torque. The option will be available next month, but if you've already pulled the trigger on your Panamera Turbo, retrofit kits will be available in November.

Porsche's 918 Spyder hybrid (video)

A couple days before the Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid made its grand entrance to the international car market at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, it got the lay of the land on some twisties in the Carmel Valley foothills. Porsche released a video of the 918 Spyder's first North American miles before showing it off to the tony international car set at Pebble Beach last weekend.

The recently green-lighted Spyder reportedly has a long list of interested buyers will to fork over the anticipated $650,000 for a 500 horsepower 3.4-liter V-8 hybrid that gets 78 mpg. … Read more

Porsche Panamera Gran Turismo, 25,000 and counting

The 25,000th Panamera Gran Turismo just rolled out of the Porsche assembly plant in Leipzig, Germany, the company said in a statement.

The milestone-setting vehicle is a Ruby Red Panamera sporting a 300-horsepower 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine. It will be delivered to a customer in the USA, the company said.

"The benchmark performance of our Panamera V6 models wins over our customers worldwide," said Bernhard Maier, Porsche's Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing. "Even in the USA, a country with a preference for V8 engines, they impress with their efficiency and sportiness. The Panamera combines … Read more

At 3,000 miles, Road Trip 2010 hits New Hampshire

BRENTWOOD, N.H.--Road Trip 2010 has officially covered enough miles to make it from one coast of America to the other.

Of course, that's not what's really happened. Instead, I've driven 3,000 miles up and down--and up and down, and up and down, following a truly inefficient path--the East Coast in search of great destinations to report on.

And that's what has brought me here, to this town of population 4,200 in the southeastern corner of the Granite State--that quest for great things to write about. It's not that I had … Read more

Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid racecar coming to Atlanta

The Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, which led its overall classification for more than 8 hours back in May at the Nurburgring 24-hour race, will now travel to the USA and Asia.

Due to its larger range, the GT3 R Hybrid took the lead in the race after the other cars pitted, but left it with less than two hours to go.

This fall, U.S. racing fans will get a chance to see the GT3 R Hybrid at the season finale of the American Le Mans Series. The "Petit Le Mans" on Oct. 2, at Road Atlanta. … Read more
