IAB sets new guidelines for online advertising
The IAB is hoping its new set of guidelines will help online advertisers better understand the interactive-ad market and how to work with ad networks and exchanges.
The Interactive Ad Bureau, a trade association consisting of almost 500 media and technology companies that sell online advertising in the U.S., released the final version of its "Networks & Exchanges Quality Assurance Guidelines" (PDF) document on Thursday. The goal behind the new guidelines is to bring some clarify and transparency to the world of interactive advertising so that online advertisers can find a sometimes-confusing market more hospitable.

Pandora's success means more bucks for artists
For years, Pandora and other Web radio stations fought to reduce the royalty rates they were required to pay artists and record labels.
Last July, the music industry and Webcasters reached an agreement and it now appears both sides are reaping the benefits. On Friday, SoundExchange, the group appointed by Congress to collect royalties on behalf of artists and copyright owners, said it has begun distributing $51.7 million, the largest quarter the nonprofit group has ever recorded.

Moving server software to the cloud has a lot of advantages. A company no longer has to worry about patches, deploying upgrades, and an number of other concerns.
But it also has one big downside--one that many CIOs are still struggling with--a the loss of control.

Microsoft plans update to Exchange 2010
Microsoft on Wednesday announced the first details of a planned service pack to Exchange Server 2010, which will add several new features to the messaging and calendar server software.
In addition to the usual crop of tweaks and fixes, Service Pack 1 for Exchange 2010 will allow for better archiving and discovery of mail, improvements to Outlook Web Access, and better management capabilities, among other features.
Microsoft plans to make available a beta of the service pack in June with the final version due out later this year.
