The Coop brings social networking to Firefox

The Mozilla Foundation's Labs has launched The Coop, a project that will let people keep track of their friend's online activities. The add-on will create a row or column of friends' photos. When a photo glows, the user can see that a friends has a new link, photo, blog, or video to share from content-sharing services such as del.icio.us and Flickr. The project planners envision using RSS or another mechanism to move the data between people's browsers. For more information, check out this News.com article.

MySpace News: It was only a matter of time [UPDATE]

MySpace is preparing to launch an integrated news service--with self-aggregating content and social bookmarking--in the coming weeks. MySpace members will be able to post the stories on their profiles, discuss, promote, and submit their own written content to be seen and ranked by other MySpace users (see NewsVine). The new service is reminiscent of Digg and del.icio.us, with social bookmarking for news stories that can be promoted with user voting.

It was only a matter of time before this happened, considering MySpace has been owned by news mogul Rupert Murdoch since 2005 and gets 230,000 new registered users a dayRead more

Shelfari: Social bookmarking for books

Shelfari is a social network and recommendation service that lets you flaunt your book collection to others, and discover new titles worth reading. Yesterday Shelfari announced a round of funding, with Amazon.com being the top contributor.

If you've ever seen Delicious Monster, Shelfari is visually similar, with virtual bookshelves that house your collection as long as you're willing to manually input all your titles. The result is a slick-looking listing to share with others on your blog or Web site (see below), and make friends with people who have similar tastes to swap recommendations.

Each Shelfari book … Read more

eSnips bumps storage, upgrades music sharing

eSnips, the social networking and content-hosting service, is quintupling the storage on users accounts to 5GB. The company is also adding new music-sharing features that let users create embeddable music widgets and playlists for use on eSnips user pages, blogs, Web sites, and social networking sites like MySpace. The service ties into the eSnips marketplace, which lets you buy and sell user-generated content like photos and music.

We covered eSnips last year and noted its similarity to social bookmarking site Del.icio.us mixed with content hosting like you'd find on social networking sites. Since then, eSnips claims to … Read more

Buzzvote: Polling widgets for your blog

Buzzvote is a free polling service that lets users create and share their own polls. Once made, users can share their polls through a variety of social bookmarking sites like Del.icio.us, Digg and Furl. You can also embed the poll in any Web page or blog. There are other services that do this, including BlogPoll and Pollpub, but Buzzvote has a really simple and easy-to-use interface.

After registering (which doesn't require your e-mail address), Buzzvote will keep track of all the items you've voted on, as well as show you current results for each. What it'… Read more
