How to enable Firefox's PDF reader

If you're not a fan of relying on browser add-ons and plug-ins, you'll probably want to enable a feature that can help you ditch at least one of them. Firefox now has a built-in PDF reader, and while it doesn't offer all of the same features that Adobe's version does, it's more than sufficient for most uses.

Before you get started enabling the PDF viewer, make sure you have the latest version of Firefox and you've disabled the Adobe PDF viewer.

To check the version: click the menu at the top left-hand corner and … Read more

Free your PDF files

Adobe Acrobat Reader has broken-down hardware and software platforms to enable the viewing and printing of Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format) files. Acrobat Reader for Mac excels at what it is supposed to do: help you read PDF files, as well as print and e-mail them. However, it doesn't stop there. As the popularity of PDF files increased, Adobe complied with … Read more

Adobe: 'TV Everywhere' revolution is just beginning

The Olympics broke new ground for a movement pushing consumers to watch TV streamed from every device possible -- the sports event shepherded more than 7 million households into streaming TV feeds from Web sites and mobile apps, Adobe Systems announced today.

And it's just the beginning, Adobe's executives said.

The software company is at the center of a TV watching revolution of sorts, aimed at regaining the customers the TV industry lost to Web-streaming services such as Netflix. This means people who subscribe to any major network, including Fox, ESPN, CNN, TNT, MTV, or Disney, can watch … Read more

Adobe patches critical security bugs in Flash, Reader, Acrobat

Those of you running Adobe Flash, Reader, and/or Acrobat are advised to download the latest updates. Adobe yesterday rolled out new and critical security fixes for all three products.

The update for Flash patches a vulnerability that could cause the software to crash and allow someone to remotely take control of an infected computer.

This hole has already been exploited through limited attacks, Adobe said. Deployed through a malicious Word document, this exploit attacks the ActiveX version of Flash Player installed as a plug-in on Internet Explorer for Windows.

Windows and Macintosh users can update Flash through the Adobe Flash Player Download Center. … Read more

Incompatible PDF viewer may cause problems in Mountain Lion

After upgrading Mountain Lion, you might find odd problems such as Safari crashing, or the system not showing the appropriate cursor at times, either in Safari or in other programs like Microsoft Office. When you might expect to see the standard arrow as the mouse pointer, the cursor will instead look like a crosshair or another alternate cursor.

This problem is not widespread by any means, and seems to be rooted around the user installing an incompatible Adobe PDF viewer Web browser plug-in.

Since Safari provides built-in PDF compatibility, for most people there has been no real need for an … Read more

Reasons not to buy a Nexus 7

Subscribe: RSS (SD) RSS (HD) iTunes (SD) iTunes (HD) The Nexus 7 is my favorite tablet right now. Google nailed the price, the interface, and the features, and avoided the mistake of selling it exclusively through a mobile carrier. It's enough to make the Motorola Xoom feel like a distant memory.

But no gadget is perfect, and the Nexus 7 is no exception. If you honestly think a $200 tablet can be made without cutting any corners, let me know. I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

Android fans, I recommend following this one up with … Read more
