It's no secret that casual games are making their presence felt in the era of next-gen gaming. echochrome is a puzzle game that resembles something out of an M.C. Escher painting. You must guide the main character (who looks like a wood-jointed mannequin) through increasingly complex environments filled with portals and hidden gaps. echochrome will be released on the PS3's PlayStation Network as well as the PSP.

Solid Snake returns for his last mission in Metal Gear Solid 4. This PlayStation 3 exclusive features all the stealth-based action, giant robots, and confusing plot twists you've come to expect from Konami and Hideo Kojima's epic series. MGS4 hits the PS3 in early 2008.
As someone who owns an NES, SNES, Genesis, 3D0, every version of the Gameboy, PSP, DS, PlayStation, Dreamcast, Saturn, Xbox, GameCube, Nintendo 64, PlayStation 2 and 3, Xbox 360 and Wii (phew!), I was always a big fan of games and the news that used to come in May at E3. And while my love of video games has cooled over the past few years, the recent E3 coverage has me thinking: what will the next year of gaming actually bring?
Although it isn't nearly as big as it used to be, E3 is still the industry's premier … Read more
Konami brings side-scrolling, alien-shooting action back with Contra 4, the first true Contra sequel since 1992's Contra III: The Alien Wars for the Super Nintendo. Black Viper and his alien hordes want to destroy humanity, and Bill and Lance (the heroes of Contra III) must stop them. Contra 4 hits the Nintendo DS later this year. Until then, you can play Contra III: The Alien Wars through the Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console, or the original Contra arcade game through the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade.
We admit heading into our preview of Gearbox's Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway with some trepidation yesterday. Shooters set in World War II feel so played-out that even calling them a cliche has become a cliche. It seems that the team is trying some innovative things with its new title, though, including an attempt at making the "feel" of combat more authentic. Some new tactical features, like requiring you to lay down suppressing fire, as well as a mechanic for simulating the overall heat of combat, gave the preview we saw a unique flavor.
But the … Read more

Television's longest-running TV family and longest-running animated series is getting yet another game with The Simpsons Game. It's not a direct tie-in with the upcoming Simpsons movie, but it still puts you in the shoes of Homer, Bart, Lisa, and Marge as they fight and bite and fight and bite and fight through 16 different cartoon-realistic, cel-shaded "episodes." The Simpsons Game hits every major video game console this fall.
The list of notable PS3-exclusive games thus far has been thin, to say the least. While first-person shooters and driving games are well represented, a good traditional third-person action/adventure has not. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, first seen at a Sony press preview a few months ago, aims to fill that niche with elements lovingly lifted from popular games such as the Tomb Raider and Far Cry.
It's pretty standard third-person exploration, as Drake clambers over obstacles in a remote jungle location, a la Lara Croft. Of course, the location isn't remote enough to prevent untold numbers of … Read more
The WWII shooter genre is about as overworked as a game meme can be, with virtually identical games having suspiciously similar names, such as Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, or Hour of Victory. The Medal of Honor series, which dates all the way back the original PlayStation, breaks away from the pack with a surprisingly refreshing take on the theme.
Instead of planting you, as a well-armed soldier, at point A in some generic European town and forcing you to fight through waves of Axis soldiers on your way to point B, MoH: Airborne sets up the map, shows … Read more
