Airstream trailer serves eco-nomads

This classic Airstream trailer outfitted with off-the-grid features got people thinking back to the future at the 18th Bioneers conference this weekend. The sustainability convention in San Rafael, Cal., brings together "bio-pioneers" including scientists, artists, clean tech investors and nonprofit activists.

The 22-foot Safari model, circa 1958, incorporates a composting toilet, wind turbine and solar panels. It has bamboo floors, trimmings and cabinet skins as well as an Alaskan yellow cedar couch bed. Countertops are recycled stainless steel and the bathroom floors are marboleum, derived from flax oil.

'Tailgating Trailer' for the ultimate gamer

With football season in full swing we're witnessing the annual migration of that heartiest of parking-lot breeds, the tailgaters. Little did we know, however, that their work has been elevated to an art form.

While amateurs toil with such tools as MP3 coolers and barbecues, an elite corps will be rolling out the "Tailgating Trailer"--a self-contained portable party apparatus that includes "a 27-inch LCD TV, satellite, DVD, generator, propane grill, hand-washing sink with running water, beer on tap and even a toilet," according to BornRich. (Microwave is optional.)

E3: 'Unreal Tournament III' trailer

Die-hard deathmatch fans have been waiting for a true Unreal Tournament sequel since UT2004 hit PCs more than three years ago. The lastest iteration will be exclusive to the PC and PS3 "in 2007" when it hits in November--wording that makes us think it's highly likely we'll see the game (or a reasonable facsimile) appearing on the 360 at some point next year. But no matter--PS3 owners will still relish the chance to get first dibs on the game, which is powered by the same Unreal Engine 3 graphics engine that made Gears of War such … Read more

E3: 'World in Conflict' trailer

Add Sierra's World in Conflict to the list of enticing real-time strategy games for 2007. The game envisions a Cold-War-turned-hot conflict between the U.S. and Soviet Union, with an emphasis on pick-up-and-play action over resource management. Look for it on the PC and Xbox 360 in the fall of 2007.

E3: 'Call of Duty 4' trailer

To date, the Call of Duty franchise has been strictly a World War II affair. But with Call of Duty 4, Activision and developer Infinity Ward move the action to a 21st century setting. The military shooter brings an all-new graphics engine to the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC when it hits stores this fall. Can you say, "Halo who?"

MySpace launching branded video channels, possible Joost killer

MySpace will soon launch more than a dozen branded video channels, featuring content from big names like the National Geographic group, The New York Times, and Reuters. Users will be able to access the video content on branded content microsites similar to YouTube's partner channels with the BBC, NBC, and CBS. MySpace is allowing content providers to customize their content interface, with special backgrounds and color schemes. Expect something similar to Trailer Park, which MySpace launched last month.

The new service will tie in to MySpace's current videos platform, although there's no word yet on whether or … Read more

Trend alert: These trailers are hardly trashy

Guess what's bringing sexy back these days? Trailers! Well, kind of--these are actually campers, since you hook them up to the back of your car or SUV. But I'm sure that with this precedent, we'll be seeing full-out trailers done up in luxe style before long. Apparently, some people really just can't make their cross-country excursions without high design:

Deseo Caravan. Hailing from the Netherlands, this is marketed as a lightweight, compact, well-designed camper that's sold at an affordable cost. They are pretty reasonably priced, starting at 6,677 euros, which is slightly over $9,… Read more

MySpace launches Quicktime trailers competitor, sort of

MySpace quietly launched Trailer Park this morning, a new area showcasing trailers for upcoming movies. All videos are played on the in-house MySpace player and can be embedded on member pages. Trailer Park is launching with five trailers from Lionsgate, Warner Bros., Independent, and Buena Vista Pictures.

The page is designed to feel like a member's profile, with forums, a friends list, and a comment board. The dearth of actual content about a movie (actors, ratings, and so on) can be found at the movie's marketing site, which gets its own link alongside the trailer.

Unfortunately, from the … Read more
