How much time have you spent searching through program folders and file repositories for the product key to a piece of software that you need to update or reinstall? Something that seems like it ought to be as easy as finding the tag of your shirt or your car's VIN instead becomes more like unraveling the Da Vinci Code. Help is available in the form of Miscsoftware's Product Key Viewer Professional, a utility that automatically locates the product keys in more than 1,000 Windows and other software products. It quickly returns any user data, activation keys, and … Read more
Pdf-Office Professional is a sleek program that allows users to create interactive PDF forms. Although it seems simple, getting the program to create decent-looking forms was harder than we expected.
The program's interface is clean and uncluttered, with its features neatly organized in toolbars. The main toolbar allows users to quickly switch between the text editor tool, image tool, drawing tool, text box tool, and form tool. Most of these are fairly self-explanatory, with the exception of the form tool. And that's unfortunate, since it's the whole point of the program. The form tool seems as if … Read more

Happy Windows 7 Day everyone! Much to Wilson's chagrin, there is indeed another operating system out there, and the new version just came out today. Users unhappy with Windows Vista can now breath a sigh of relief, as the new OS combines a strong design with an easy-to-use interface that many are calling "Vista done right," but more.
Most interesting about Windows 7 is Microsoft's impressive worldwide media promotion, which includes Burger Kings in Japan rolling out the official Windows 7 burger. The meaty behemoth actually has seven meat patties and carries a 777 special price for Japanese customers.
The limited-time offer is an effort to promote the software as "leaner and meaner," although we don't get how a heart attack between two buns will get the message out there. Seth MacFarlane is getting in on the viral marketing as well--on November 18, Microsoft will sponsor a full half-hour episode of "Family Guy." Be sure to watch the sneak peak that features Stewie and Brian poking fun at Microsoft's new features.
Finally, Jeff's pick for today's Beck's Beer Audio Draft is a band on Victory Records called The Audition. Although we agree with Jeff that they might be the pop-iest band we've featured on the show, they nevertheless have a feel-good sound that takes us back to our teenage years. The first song of the day is entitled "My Temperature's Rising" off the band's newest self-titled album.
Unfortunately, the band just got off a tour with our beloved Alkaline Trio, but be sure to check back on their Last.FM page for the latest concert info.EPISODE 451 Subscribe in iTunes audio | Suscribe to iTunes (video) | Subscribe in RSS Audio | Subscribe in RSS Video… Read more

LOS ANGELES--Adobe Systems' announcement of tools to create applications for the Apple iPhone comes with some restrictions.
Adobe announced on Monday at Adobe MAX, the company's worldwide developer conference, that its Flash Professional CS5 developer tool will enable developers to create interactive applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch. A public beta of Flash Professional CS5 is expected to be available later this year.
In an interview at the conference Monday, Anup Murarka, director of technology strategy and partner development in Adobe's platform development unit, spelled out some of the limitations of creating Adobe Flash-style apps for the … Read more
MSD Organizer Portable is a multifeatured organizer that allows users to keep track of nearly every aspect of their lives. Although we commend the program for being so ambitious, the number of things it does--and the way they're organized--is overwhelming.
The program's interface is modern-looking, with a style reminiscent of the latest Microsoft Office products. Despite this sleekness, the sheer number of features turns this program into a cluttered mess. Several layers of toolbars adorn the top (and side), and the program's content is displayed in varies configurations of grids, which also sometimes contain more toolbars. The … Read more
Label Spirit Simple is a powerful label maker that allows users to create labels with text, images, bar codes, and more. Although the program is a bit confusing at first, the program offers many options for label creation.
The program's interface is not particularly intuitive. The program is separated into two components--Label Edit and Label Print--and it is not readily apparent what either of these does. The Print interface in particular is confusing, with lots of little unfamiliar things crowded into the top of the screen. This is unfortunate, because the interface is otherwise quite sleek, and the look … Read more
Maple Professional allows users to create tree-style hierarchies to organize information. Although the program is fairly simple to use, some of its functions didn't perform as expected.
The program's interface is basic and intuitive. The screen is split into two parts, with the user's tree on the left and the contents of each node of the tree on the right. Users can easily add nodes to the tree with the click of a button. Most of the other buttons on the interface are related to text formatting and should be familiar to users of Microsoft Office products. … Read more
We have to admit we were skeptical. We've messed around in Photoshop before and had no idea what we were doing. Portrait Professional promised to be easy, but how easy could it be? Surely it would require some kind of photo-editing skills, right? Wrong.
We are not exaggerating when we say that anyone could use this program. It doesn't really get any easier than this. Open a photo, and the program guides you though the process of adjusting a series of outlines over the subject's facial features. Even this doesn't have to be exact. Once you'… Read more
