As people around the world become increasingly more reliant on their mobile devices, the app market continues to grow. This is an 11 percent increase over all of 2012 combined.

GameGain Review

If your computer can't keep up with your games, it may be time to give it a boost. For a small fee, this program wants to change a few settings on your computer to make things run faster. Sadly, the GameGain trial version doesn't make good on its promises; you won't notice any performance upgrade in any of your favorite games.

The program offers a free trial that lasts for 29 days, while the full version costs $12.99. You can't unlock GameGain's "fastest" setting" without paying up, though. The program occasionally … Read more

Ematic's new 7-inch Android 4.1 tablet costs $79.99

Dirt-cheap tablets have been around for years, but most of them have proven disappointing. Spend less than $100 and you're almost certain to get stuck with a resistive touch screen (one that requires pressure to recognize a tap or swipe), a pokey processor, an outdated version of Android, or a seriously limited app store. Maybe several of the above.

Dirt-cheap-tablet maker Ematic is looking to change all that with the Genesis Prime. Announced yesterday, this 7-inch slate promises to give users the full Android experience, complete with access to Google Play, for just $79.99.

What does 80 bucks … Read more

Fake Google Play apps scam Japanese porn seekers

Hundreds of Japanese porn apps in the Google Play marketplace are tricking porn seekers into shelling out $1,000 for a fake service, security firm Symantec has found.

The company published a blog post today about the more than 200 fraudulent Android apps published by over 50 developers. Symantec has been tracking these apps since late January.

"From then on, the apps were published by different developers each time and the number of apps steadily grew though many were removed from Google Play at one point for unconfirmed reasons," according to the blog. "We are now seeing … Read more

Ouya, apps, and the future of gaming

The annual Game Developers Conference, which attracts tens of thousands from the gaming industry, had all of the usual players this year: Nintendo, Sony, EA, Activision, etc. But they weren't the only players in town this week at GDC.

There was plenty of buzz about Ouya, the new $99, Android-based gaming console that broke Kickstarter records like Adrian Peterson breaks tackles.

Now, before the serious gamers out there savage me, let me be clear: The Ouya isn't going to be displacing the role of traditional consoles like the PlayStation or the Wii (although the Wii U has gone nowhere). … Read more

GameStop: PlayStation 4 demand to outpace supply at launch

GameStop reported its earnings yesterday, but perhaps the biggest news came from its earnings call, in which it said that demand for the PlayStation 4 is already showing signs of strength.

According to GameStop President Tony Bartel, "nearly 900,000 members have already signed up for the PlayStation 4 First to Know List." That list provides all of the latest details on the PlayStation 4 to customers and is usually a strong indicator of the number of people who might preorder the device when it goes on sale in the fourth quarter.

Bartel went on to tell investors … Read more

Interactive Google Play app dishes up actor details

Google today introduced a new feature to the Google Play Movies and TV app for Android. Dubbed "info cards," they offer up contextually based "cards" with related information and links.

If you've ever watched a TV show or movie and wondered where you might have seen the actor before, or if you're curious what that song is playing in the end credits, these info cards save the day.
