LG's quad-core-packing Optimus G to head to U.S. in Q4

LG's latest super phone, the Optimus G, will head to the U.S. in the fourth quarter, according to the head of its U.S. marketing unit.

LG executive James Fishler, speaking at an event in New York, touted it as one of the most powerful and fastest smartphones yet.

After weeks of rumor and speculation, the Optimus G has been officially unveiled.

LG's new flagship smartphone will be LTE- and NFC-compatible and feature the new Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor. It will also sport a 4.7-inch WXGA screen (1,280 x 768 pixels), a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and an embedded 2,100mAh battery that has a longer lifespan of 800 cycles compared with the 500 cycles of today's batteries.

Looks like the rumors were true.

Verizon's version of the unlocked LG Optimus Vu, renamed the LG Intuition, will be available online to U.S. customers starting September 6. It will be offered in Verizon retail stores starting September 10 for $199.99 with a two-year contract.

The Intuition sports a gigantic 5-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and 650 nits of brightness.

LG took the wraps off the latest addition to its L-Series line of smartphones this evening.

Featuring Android 4.0 (aka Ice Cream Sandwich), the Optimus L9 will sport a 1GHz dual-core processor and 4.7-inch IPS display. The 9.1-millimeter-thick L9 will also feature a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a high-density 2150 mAH SiO+ battery.

LG today announced a new flagship smartphone, boasting 4G LTE and the Snapdragon quad-core processor.

Dubbed the Optimus G, the device is designed to lead LG's smartphone line. The flagship handset comes with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and a 4.7-inch HD IPS+ display offering 1,280x768 resolution. LG hits 5 million LTE smartphones sold

As deployment of 4G LTE networks increases, LG Electronics is reaping the benefits.

The South Korean handset maker announced this evening that it had sold 5 million LTE smartphones worldwide, with 1 million of the handsets sold in July alone.

The Optimus LTE -- dubbed the world's first HD LTE smartphone by LG -- was the most popular LG LTE smartphone with 2 million units sold. Also contributing to the success was the Optimus Vu, which sold more than 500,000 units since March.

LG Optimus Vu may arrive stateside in a few weeks

The 5-inch LG Optimus Vu could arrive at a U.S. wireless provider in the next few weeks, fresh with support for a 4G LTE network.

An LG press release (translated) indicates that the Android smartphone is due stateside at some point in the third quarter. LG doesn't discuss carrier specifics, but recent signs indicate Verizon will be up first.

Back in February during MWC 2012, we first caught a glimpse of LG's line of midrange Android handsets. The L7 boasted the best specs of the L-style family (it has a 1GHz processor, 4.3-inch display, and 5-megapixel camera), while the L5 followed close behind.
