Why Hulu Plus is a nifty addition

I am excited about Hulu Plus. I have already requested my invite in earnest!

I've heard some belly-aching about the fact that the service costs $9.99 per month, yet there will still be ads. My take on this: get over it!

We pay a lot of money for cable TV and cable TV does not filter out ads. Why would we expect that $9.99 should buy us commercial-free content? This is expensive premium content that we will be getting with Hulu Plus, and a lot of it. Also consider that you have to pay an extra $9.… Read more

Google still struggling in China

Google has been very candid about its struggles in China. Now a new post from Google gives us more insight into how this battle between the search giant and China continues to unfold.

Earlier this year, Google refused to continue blocking search results that were mandated by the Chinese government so the government threatened to shut them down completely in China. Google circumvented this by routing all Chinese traffic through servers in Hong Kong.

We all knew that was a temporary solution. Now China is threatening not to renew Google's Internet content provider license if the company continues to … Read more

Droid X vs. iPhone 4

Happy iPhone day! We have coverage of the hysteria and it is just as we expected: hysterical! See for yourself.

On a separate note, you may have noticed the absence of an afternoon edition of Loaded. Let me explain. I love doing the show twice a day but producing the show that often turns out to be a little too ambitious for our New York crew, particularly as I am getting ready to take maternity leave. The twice-a-day schedule is not dead forever. We hope to wait to pick it up again when I return in the fall.

Is this TV overcompensating?

Wow, the new Sharp i3 Wall is a lot of TV! I'm tempted to ask who needs that much TV but that would be a silly question. I work for CNET after all!

A few highlights of this beast: It has thirty 60-inch liquid crystal displays mounted 6.5 millimeters from one another. It will cost $550,000 when it launches in Japan later this year. No joke!

Before you start emptying your 401K to be able to afford this (and if you have that much in your 401K, good for you!), keep in mind the equation for TV … Read more

3D projectors

It's a slightly slow news day, considering Monday was the Apple keynote.

As anyone who loves technology knows, an Apple keynote is like the Super Bowl. No one expects to make much noise in the sporting world immediately following the biggest game of the year.

Nevertheless, there are still news stories moving and shaking. From Tuesday morning's edition of Loaded:

• Apple launches Safari 5 for Mac and Windows PCs

• Adobe partners with Greystripe to bring Flash to the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch in a roundabout way

• Sanyo shows off 3D projectors

• Nike launches … Read more

iPhone 4 details and more

iPhone 4. A few surprises but mostly what we expected: front-facing camera, HD video recording and editing, flash, multi-tasking, video calling, and a new body.

No big surprises but technology lovers are still very excited about it all, myself included. I've been getting a little bored with my iPhone lately and feeling very tempted by Android phones, particularly the HTC Evo.

This afternoon's edition of Loaded has a brief summary of all things Stevenote. If you want more, we will break the keynote into several bits over the next 24 hours so you can watch it at your … Read more
