Microsoft's new Game Hub socializes Web games

Following the single-focus of social networking found within Games for Windows Live, Xbox Live, and Windows Phone 7, Microsoft has brought the beginnings of a central gaming network to its casual gaming sites.

The company today put out what it's calling the "Microsoft Gaming Hub," which is a system of social-networking features that have been built around each casual game and spread across three of Microsoft's online-gaming properties: Bing Games, MSN Games, and Windows Live Messenger. AT&T U-verse Mobile to come with Win Phone 7

NEW YORK--The three Windows Phone 7 handsets that AT&T announced this morning in New York will include AT&T's U-verse Mobile app, the carrier said in a press release.

U-verse is AT&T's digital TV service that competes with cable and satellite in people's homes. The mobile app lets subscribers download TV shows via Wi-Fi onto their phones at no extra charge.

Samsung Epic 4G first to get Media Hub

During last week's Galaxy Tab event in Manhattan, Samsung teased the imminent availability of its Media Hub service, and now it looks like Sprint is the first carrier to roll out the video store to a Galaxy S smartphone, its Samsung Epic 4G.

During today's press conference, Samsung revealed that Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T are all on board to offer the Android-based Galaxy Tab in the U.S.

Samsung Electronics is expected to officially launch its new Android-based tablet PC on Thursday evening at an event in New York, likely naming three of the four major wireless operators in the United States as carrier partners.

Energy Dept. funds CO2 recycling, 'solar fuels'

The Department of Energy announced two technology clean-energy research projects to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the same day that the Senate dropped efforts to include carbon limits in an energy bill this summer.

As part of a $106 million stimulus funding program, the Energy Department on Thursday named six companies which will be testing methods for using the CO2 from industrial processes as input for products, such as cement, fertilizer, or plastics.
