Chevy Volt sounds sweet with Bose

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is all about energy efficiency, but that doesn't mean it's boring. The new Energy Efficient Series sound system from Bose is 30 percent smaller, 40 percent lighter, and uses 50 percent less energy than conventional Bose sound systems, company reps say.

The Volt made an appearance at the Chicago Auto Show. Company reps from Chevy and Bose talk up the new sound system.

Maserati showed off an updated Quattroporte sedan for the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2009 Quattroporte gets a design consistent with the 2008 GranTurismo, including the toothy grille, and it gets reworked head and tail lights. The S model of this curvy sedan gains some oomph, with a big 4.7-liter V-8 under the hood, half a liter bigger than the standard model. Best of all for car techies, Bose contributes an audio system and infotainment package that combines navigation, cell phone, and stereo.

Do Denon's new noise-canceling headphones beat Bose's Quiet Comfort models?

Bose has managed to persuade thousands of people to spend large sums of money on the company's QuietComfort 3 and QuietComfort 2 noise-canceling headphones. That has emboldened companies such as Denon--which can leverage its own highly respected brand--to come up with its own pair of $300 noise-canceling headphones. Alas, Denon doesn't have the marketing prowess that Bose does, so its Quiet Comfort competitors don't have an easy-to-remember name but a somewhat hard-to-remember model number, the AH-NC732.

So, do they measure up to Bose's popular headphones? (Hint: Not quite).

Prizefight: Bose QuietComfort 3 vs. Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7

Bose has built quite the reputation for its entire audio line, so it's no surprise that the third version of the company's noise-canceling headphones, the QuietComfort 3, has a following. These earpad-style cans are supercomfortable and offer a sleek design that's significantly trimmed down in size from previous models. However, Bose made no move to lower the luxury pricing of the QuietComfort, which is where the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 QuietPoint headphones come in. These full-size 'phones sound good, can be used with or without noise-cancellation turned on, and include a handy hard-shell carrying case--all at half the price … Read more

Denon goes after Bose with the AH-NC732 noise-canceling headphones

Denon entered the headphone game just last year, but for a freshman competitor, the company had a lot to offer. Most of the models we auditioned--both full-size home headphones and travel-friendly in-ear models--ranged from good to excellent. Now the company is expanding its offerings with a noise-canceling model. The AH-NC732 On-Ear Noise Cancelling Headphones offer a lightweight (160 grams), acoustic optimizer (said to offer deep bass), and compact hard case. A single AAA battery is needed for the active noise cancellation, which counteracts ambient noise with an inverse soundwave. In other words, the new Denons look to be targeted … Read more

Giant Bose Acoustic Wave Music System unveiled?

What's this, the new Bose headquarters in New York? No, not at all--but that's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this picture of the wraps coming off the new Museum of Arts & Design, which is located at 2 Columbus Circle and scheduled to open in the next few months.

For those of who don't follow New York real estate and architecture, the area around Columbus Circle is home to some of the most valuable real estate in the city, including the Time Warner Center (where, ironically, there is a Bose store, … Read more
