Starting with mobile online games, Spb Software, a popular vendor for Windows mobile apps, is rolling out a set of premium online services for 3G networks. And Russian mobile users will be getting the first crack.
The package, called SkyTouch, is basically a customized Spb Mobile user interface that gives consumers access to local online services over cellular data connections, such as streaming music or TV. Internet service provider EarthLink has turned the corner.
On Tuesday, the company reported profits of $54.7 million, or $0.49 per share, for the third quarter of 2008, compared to a net loss of $79.4 million, or $0.65 per share, during the same quarter a year ago.
The company's revenues were actually down about 22.5 percent, compared to last year. It brought in only $230.8 million, compared to revenue of $298 million in the third quarter of 2007.

LinkedIn on Thursday announced the launch of LinkedIn Surveys, a service from the LinkedIn Research Network that allows market researchers and investors to access the site's 30 million professionals for market intelligence by creating a survey, and either opening it up to the entire LinkedIn community or targeting a select group.

LinkedIn has raised an additional $22.7 million in funding, giving the business-networking site a little cushion in difficult economic times.
The strategic investment, announced Wednesday, comes from Goldman Sachs, SAP, McGraw-Hill, and longtime investor Bessemer Venture Partners. The money arrives on the heels of a $53 million Series D funding round in June that gave LinkedIn a valuation of $1 billion. The latest funding round brings the total funds raised to just more than $100 million.
