Netflix has extended an apology, in the form of a discount, to customers in the wake of an 11-hour site outage.

On Monday, the Web's leading movie-rental service suffered its second extended outage in the past nine months. This time, the glitch led to customers receiving their DVDs a day late. For those who were inconvenienced, Netflix is crediting their account 5 percent.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused," Netflix told customers via e-mail. "We will issue a (5 percent) credit to your account in the next few days."

Dear Take-Two and Electronic Arts: I'm not an arbitrator. And neither are my colleagues who cover video games.

I know it's nothing new in the fast-paced world of hostile takeovers, tender offers and other forms of mergers and acquisitions, but it's beyond obvious that both Take-Two and EA are using the press--and our outreach to the public--to try to negotiate the best terms in whatever marriage the two eventually end up in.

Revision3, the edgy MTV-style "TV network for the Web" owned by the founders of Digg, will soon have its shows syndicated on Blip.tv.

That means Kevin Rose, Digg co-founder and co-host of Diggnation, will be appearing on even more Internet channels for those teens and twentysomethings who just can't get enough of his shayna punim. Revision3 shows are available on iTunes and, now with the Blip.tv deal, they may even end up on traditional TV sets.

If you tamper with your Xbox Live Gamerscore, you might lose it and everything in it forever, administrators of Microsoft's online game service want you to know.

In a terse post Tuesday, administrator Major Nelson wrote, "Today we took action on some of the accounts we have identified as the most serious offenders who have violated the Xbox Live Terms of Use by tampering with their Gamerscore and achievements."

South Park fans rejoice, every episode of your favorite show is now available online, legally, via South Park Studios.

This central location for all things South Park is host to every single full episode of the show and around 3,000 embeddable video clips. It's not really clear why you are not able to embed the full episodes as of right now and their reach may suffer as a result. I'm not going to knock South Park Studios too hard for this since it is offering up its whole catalog for viewing, which is a major step. But embeddable full episodes seems like a logical feature and one that would be easy to implement since you can already embed clips.

South Park Studios is doing a lot of things right, like offering up its entire catalog for viewing, unlike some of the other big names (Heroes, The Office), who only offer a few of their most recent episodes. This is bad news for less-than-legal sites, like Alluc, which lists South Park as its most-viewed TV show.

This is a really exciting time for Web video and, with more big names like South Park embracing it, we are really moving toward a world where it's not frustrating to get your entertainment.

The world of video advertising right now is a bit chaotic with multiple types of ad formats and different players, making it difficult for publishers and advertisers to easily serve up the best ads on sites.

A Los Angeles-based start-up thinks it has found the solution. Panache offers technology that allows publishers to use video ads in any format and plug them into any type of video player. Now, publishers have to re-engineer their players for different ad formats.

Jeff Pulver, the Vonage founder, wants to make viewing online video much more like traditional TV.

Now, to change channels online you have to jump between the Web sites of the different broadcasters and networks. But PrimeTimeRewind.Tv, a company Pulver co-founded, enables visitors to watch shows from such outlets as NBC, ABC, and TNT and on one site. The site launched this week.

Pulver is able to do this by accessing the embed codes that each of the networks provides for their video. No more keying in numerous URLs, filling out multiple registrations or downloading different clients.

On Friday morning, YouTube announced the second annual iteration of its YouTube Video Awards. What? Awards?

The video-sharing service, owned by Google since 2006, awarded accolades in categories like "Adorable," "Creative," and "Comedy" to original videos hosted on its site that were uploaded in 2007, as voted on by users.
