Get a haunted bookshelf for $25

File this one under "useless but awesome."

If your bookshelf just isn't haunted enough for your liking, 25 bucks can make it happen.

Things You Never Knew Existed is hawking some faux antique books that slide out and make creepy noises whenever anyone walks by.

Watch the video to see the haunted volumes in action. Halloween is quickly approaching, kids.

'Solar Cricket' jumps for your (evil) joy

OK, so maybe you did have something to do with your uncle's coronary while navigating an RC tarantula his way at the dinner table. You'd be willing to downsize to a robot roach for future pranks, but you don't want to be in the vicinity because you'll get the blame (again).

Don't despair--a solution may be at hand. The "Solar Cricket" will take care of your mischief-making needs all by itself, energized by sunlight so that it can "waggle his feelers and do a little dance " when you're nowhere to … Read more

Wikipedia's Wales gets pranked Down Under

Looks like Wikipedia and its founder, Jimmy Wales, have turned into legitimately global icons--they're getting pranked overseas in addition to domestically. Wales was the keynote speaker at the Australian "Education.au" conference last week, as reported by the Brisbane Times (linked via TechCrunch), and in the question-and-answer session that followed his address, he was subject to the antics of a well-known Aussie prankster.

One of the inquisitive attendees happened to be Andrew Hansen, a cast member from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's sketch comedy show The Chaser's War On Everything, which features a recurring segment called &… Read more

Gizmoz: An interesting gag video service

Normally I stay away from gag sites like this, but Gizmoz is a guilty pleasure that caught my attention with its eccentric sense of humor. Gizmoz is a "Talking Heads" video creator that lets you make your own gag videos to send via e-mail or embed on your site.

There are a variety of characters to choose from, primarily celebrities and political figureheads, all with matching voice banks and caricature-like faces, many of which are slightly offensive. You also get the option to pick a slightly cheesy animated background. The real clincher for the service is the ability … Read more

Next-gen pranks with the Soundbomb

No, the Soundbomb isn't a lo-fi, post-modern iPod speaker. And no, you definitely don't want to leave one under a bridge in Boston. But if you're an artist or a prankster, you may want to get on the waiting list for one.

The idea is simple: record the sound of your choice to the Soundbomb, hide it somewhere, and enjoy as the motion detector-based Soundbomb greets/annoys/scares the crap out of passersby by blaring your audio recording.

Imagine recording ghost noises to it and hiding it in a dark basement, using it as a stolen-beer alarm … Read more

Gag gifts for geeks

Gag gifts are a lost art. All too often, we resort to the same whoopie-cushion cliches for lack of anything more inventive. The Onion Store, however, has put its exceptional snark quotient to good use with something different--and even better, it's aimed at least partly at geeks.

Last-minute pranksters might still have time to get the "GotchaBox," a set of boxes for three fake gifts: the "USB Toaster," the "Make-Your-Own Umbrella Kit" and the "Salt Of The Month Club." The box print is well done, easily mistakable for products from the … Read more

Anything called the Annoy-a-Tron is worth a mention here

Just think. You can hide this slim, inconspicuous device from ThinkGeek somewhere in one of your co-workers' cubes, and unbeknownst to them, it starts making annoying noises. Sure, they're hardly noticeable at first, but after a few hours of regular beeps--every 2 to 8 minutes, depending on how you configure it--this thing will drive your colleagues absolutely nuts. And the Annoy-a-Tron's teensy size will make it really difficult for them to figure out where it is. What a great idea!

ThinkGeek provides a list of guidelines for Annoy-a-Tron use, including the fact that you probably shouldn't hide … Read more
