Since Polaroid announced its decision to stop production for its instant film, many artists and fanboys have sent out petitions to persuade the company to revive its production line. However, with more and more shutterbugs adopting digital cameras, instant film clearly doesn't have a place in the industry anymore.
In what looks like a desperate attempt to stay afloat, Polaroid announced that it is engineering a new shooter with an onboard PoGo instant photo printer. But instead of using the conventional 2x3-inch photo paper, the company has decided that it will adopt the more traditional and familiar 4x3-inch media. … Read more
Polaroid, the company that brought the world the iconic snap-and-print camera, is ready to introduce a new instant-photo product fit for the Digital Age. The PoGo, a mobile, inkless printer with a cute name, is small enough to fit in a pocket and prints wallet-size pictures that can be turned into stickers.
The company--which continues its attempt to transition from an analog past to a digital future--hopes the Polaroid-on-the-go will revolutionize instant photo printing.
Polaroid showed the little 8-ounce PoGo to CNET News.com on Tuesday. The product receives images via Bluetooth from a camera cell phone or through a … Read more
It seems that long-time Instant Film maker Polaroid is making an attempt to target kids with their digital cameras. The Pixie CKA-00301S is a 3-megapixel shooter shaped like a handheld gaming device and, yes, it comes with 8 built-in games to entertain the little ones.
Kids can use either the 2.4-inch LCD to frame their shots or the two viewfinders located above the display. We think the camera looks like a mask when kids bring it up to look through the viewfinder.
The pixie digital camera comes with 2x digital zoom, 16MB of internal memory and SD flash memory … Read more
As we were noting the other day, Polaroid is still trying to find its way as it continues to experiment with various products not in its traditional portfolio. So it actually shouldn't be too surprising that its latest camera for kids appears to be some kind of gadget hybrid.
The "Pixie" is a 3-megapixel shooter with a 2.4-inch LCD, but it looks suspiciously like a PlayStation controller. In fact, it actually does include games that can be played using buttons made to resemble a game pad. Perhaps the most unusual feature, as Gizmodiva points out, is … Read more
This week on the Crave vodcast, Brian Tong and Jasmine France show off some vibrating earbuds, a bag made for both beer and music, and the comeback of the Polaroid.
Also, hide the pets, because we might just turn Fluffy into a new iPod case.
Polaroid is one of those Old Economy companies (remember them?) that seems harder to figure out all the time. Buried long ago in the digital photo revolution, it's been dabbling in various products not exactly in its traditional wheelhouse ever since, such as DVD players and other technologies. But perhaps one of the most curious forays of all is its move into portable music devices.
In fact, Polaroid has been trying its hand in the MP3 market for years, from its eminently forgettable "Juke Jam PDP 600" in 2004 to various models in development shown at last year's CES. … Read more
If there's one gadget that's been egregiously over-produced, it's the digital photo frame. We've never understood the need for so many brands, versions, and sizes, except for the networked Ceiva (though we're not so sure about the whole refrigerator thing).
So if companies insist on making these already-overdone products, we appreciate some originality--as in the idea for a retro-styled Polaroid snapshot lookalike conceived by photographer Dave Friedman. The people at Polaroid apparently agree, according to Stuff, because they're working to make the concept a reality.
As originally envisioned, the wireless frame would present photos … Read more
In its heyday some years back, Polaroid was one of the crown jewels of the Boston area business scene, a luminescent union of art and technology. But that was then. Today, post-bankruptcy proceedings and in the hands of new owners, it exists as little more than a brand name. Last month came the end-of-an-era announcement that it would no longer make its trademark instant film.
On Sunday, The Boston Globe ran a pair of articles in separate sections looking at the Polaroid mystique. Mark Feeney's piece, "Instant karma," pairs the Polaroid Swinger camera with the Ford Mustang … Read more
