You know those friends who borrow things and never give them back?
Well, Apple was accused last week of taking a New York filmmaker's movie about people waiting in line to buy the iPhone 5S; chopping it about a bit; changing the music; and showing it to its staff.
Oh, and as The New York Times reported it, the filmmaker's credit was removed.
Well, it wasn't his film anymore, was it?
Giving the smartphone market an option that's been successful in attracting photo enthusiasts to higher-end cameras, Nokia's new Lumia 1520 phablet can take photos in raw image formats. The Lumia 1020 will get raw support next year, too.
Juha Alakarhu, head of camera technology for Nokia, announced the feature in a tweet Tuesday, saying Nokia will use Adobe Systems' DNG (Digital Negative) format for raw photos.
"It will be available for 1520 from the beginning and 1020 with the Black [software] update early next year," he said in a follow-up tweet.

No, going big is not the answer to Nokia's US problem.
Its latest phone, the Lumia 1520, is the next in a growing line of phablets -- jumbo-sized phones named because they appear to be a mash-up of a phone and tablet. It features a larger 6-inch display, a faster quad-core processor, and powerful camera.
It has all the makings of a top-tier flagship smartphone, and could do well in the Asia markets where phablets have been more quickly adopted. Unfortunately, this is not the phone to finally allow Nokia to break through in the US.

Well, this is awkward.
Just hours after Microsoft's Surface 2 became available for sale, Nokia unveiled its own take on a Windows tablet, the Lumia 2520, putting some pressure on its soon-to-be parent company.
As Microsoft fans snapped up the Surface 2 in the US, Nokia introduced the Lumia 2520 alongside a number of jumbo smartphones and low-cost basic handsets halfway around the world in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Microsoft, of course, will eventually absorb Nokia's mobile devices business. But the introduction of the Lumia 2520, which runs the same Windows 8.1 RT operating system as … Read more

The tide has turned, dragging in new supersize smartphones with screens larger than 5 inches. Nokia's Lumia 1520, HTC's One Max, and Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 are the three top extra-large handsets sold through US carriers.
Each has its share of strengths and weaknesses that will either line up with your preferences, or disqualify it from your list.
