The "Reuse and Recycle" program, originally rolled out in August, let's users coveting that new model go into an Apple store and have their current phones appraised. Employees take water damage, hardware damage and screen condition into consideration when naming a buyback price. That credit is put on a gift card and applied to the price of … Read more

Apple appears to be planning a phablet, a Retina MacBook Air, and a 1.6-inch iWatch in its 2014 lineup, according to a research note from NPD DisplaySearch.
In addition to the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 (some are calling it a 4.8-inch design), DisplaySearch anticipates a phablet-sized 5.7-inch iPhone with a 1,920x1,080 display (see chart at bottom), based on data from the supply chain of manufacturers in Asia.
That's the same resolution in many 10-inch-class devices and would match the 5-inch resolution of Samsung's Galaxy S4.
Other goodies expected from Apple include:Big iPad : … Read more
Can't get your hands of the iPhone 5S? Neither can Japan's largest carrier, which is suffering mightily as a result.
NTT DoCoMo lost a net total of 66,800 subscribers in September, the worst loss ever, according to a report in Japan's Nikkei on Monday.
And DoCoMo lost 133,100 subscribers based on the mobile number portability (MNP) system, the report said.
DoCoMo blamed its subscriber-based problems on the double whammy of customers, who were waiting for the new iPhone, putting off purchases, and the subsequent scarcity of the 5S after it was announced, according to the … Read more
It's not easy to design a good-looking phone. A quick comparison between the iPhone 5S and Moto X shows why.
While beauty is subjective, some designs are clearly better than others. The HTC One is gorgeous by most accounts, including CNET Reviews' take.
And the Samsung Galaxy S4 is obviously a looker for many.
The Moto X -- which I recently picked up from Verizon -- is another decent design; CNET Reviews calls it "well-crafted."
I wouldn't disagree with that assessment. But an iPhone it is not.
Again, I'm talking about industrial design, not features. … Read more
In fact, one of the early demos was so clunky that its description conjures up images of the first, massive mainframe computers, instead of the slick handset-computers Apple eventually introduced in July 2007.
In a long magazine piece published online Friday in The New York Times, then-Apple executive Tony Fadell recalled Steve Jobs showing him an early example of the phone's eventual touch-screen technology in mid-2005:"He said: 'Tony, come over here. Here's something we're working on. What do … Read more

Samsung's Galaxy S4 was the top smartphone seller in the US until Apple's iPhone 5S came along, new data from Canaccord Genuity shows.
The iPhone 5S was the top-selling smartphone at all four major carriers in the US in September, the research firm revealed on Friday. Canaccord didn't say exactly how many units were sold of each device, but indicated that the Samsung Galaxy S4 was pushed back to second, and in some cases, third, last month.
For the first time in several months, Apple was the top-selling smartphone vendor in September, supplanting Samsung, which led the … Read more
The iPhone 5C has the same processor, rear camera, and Retina Display as the iPhone 5. But Apple didn't just slap a series of colorful plastic cases on last year's phone. On the inside, the 5C is a unique device, with hardware upgrades and design elements from both the 5 and the new 5S.
On the outside, it's the iPhone 5C's choices of colorful polycarbonate case that really set the phone apart from the 5 and 5S. And thanks to this case, it's also slightly longer, wider, thicker, and a bit heavier than the other two iPhones.
But peel back the case, and the 5C reveals itself to be a unique device… Read more

Through in-store pickup, you can purchase the 5S through Apple's online store or through the Apple Store mobile app. Once the phone is available, you'll receive an e-mail saying it's ready to be picked up at the Apple Store location you selected.
The iPhone 5S was available for in-store pickup when it initially launched, but Apple removed the option a day later. The 5S is in short supply, with Apple's online store listing an estimated ship date of sometime in October.
