'Top Gear' tests for best drifting cars

While it has been fun watching Jeremy Clarkson of BBC's "Top Gear" fame test out fantastic rides for a thrill, I figured why not keep the fun going and bring on all the guys from "Top Gear"--Anthony Davidson and The Stig in this instance--as they try to figure out what the best car is for drifting.

In case you didn't know, drifting is "a driving technique and to a motor sport where the driver intentionally oversteers, causing loss of traction in the rear wheels through turns, while maintaining vehicle control and a … Read more

Jeremy Clarkson's Thriller: Maserati Gran Turismo

In Tuesday's blog post, we got a closer look at the supposed ultimate lady thriller automobile, the Maserati Quattroporte, and I figured since we're on the subject, why not go for a thrill ride in a Maserati Gran Turismo? Climb in and let's go for a spin with Jeremy Clarkson of BBC's "Top Gear" fame--and away we go!

This clip comes courtesy of an excerpt from Jeremy Clarkson's Thriller series where he pushes all kinds of fine automobiles such as the Alfa Romeo 8C, the Mercedes SLR McLaren 722 GT, and in this … Read more

Hottest car from Geneva?

As the major auto show in Europe, the exhibition in Geneva had its share of common-sense practical transporters, cars on display for the average show-goer to kick the tires and start considering a purchase. But the real reason people go to auto shows is to see the exotics, the cars that they can only dream of owning.

We looked at our coverage of the show, and came up with the five cars we would most like to see in our garage. Because these are dream cars, we didn't limit the list to vehicles that will actually go into production. … Read more

The Ferrari 599XX at NAIAS 2010

Ferrari has a history for making limited edition vehicles and the history continues with the new 599XX. And this 599XX is EXTREMELY limited - reportedly only 20 or so will be available for purchase. It appears to be designed specifically for racing purposes with its F1-oriented design. And while the 599 has debuted in previous venues, here it is for your viewing pleasure straight outta the North American International Auto Show held just a month ago in Detroit. With its limited release, I'm going to make this blog limited as well and let the video here examine and explain … Read more

Ferrari set to unveil hybrid

Ferrari will unveil a hybrid at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the company's chairman confirmed Thursday.

Rumors of a hybrid Ferrari prototype based on the Ferrari 599 GTB, which debuted at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, have long been making the rounds.

Ferrari filings with the European Patent Office for a "4WD system with hybrid propulsion" were reported in June. At the time, Ferrari confirmed it was developing hybrid technology and hinted at a release within the year, but did not specify when.

Since then, there has been much speculation (and outrage by some purists) about … Read more

12 hottest tech cars of 2010

We've seen them at auto shows and special events, the 12 hottest tech cars to debut in 2010. Each of these cars represents automakers' efforts to push the technology envelope, whether through cabin or power-train tech.

Don't expect to find another tired update of an economy model amongst this group. Some are radical attempts to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, others institute new technologies in the cabin, and a few we've selected are pinnacles of engineering.

These cars will become available to the public throughout the year, and it looks like a good year indeed.

2010 Ferrari California: The Practical Ferrari?

I know I've been giving a lot of lip service to Ferrari lately on this blog, but it's hard to argue that it's not been informative and fun. I promise to move on to other subjects this week, but I have one more Prancing Horse I'd like to take a closer look at.

Some critics and consumers have suggested that the introduction of the new Ferrari sports supercar, the 458 Italia, came about partly because certain Ferrari snobs were put off by the 2009 Ferrari California's more streamlined and practical features and design. It does … Read more

Ferrari F430 Scuderia on BBC's 'Top Gear'

Most people who know me consider me to be quite sarcastic. It turns out, that's a trait I share with my favorite "snarky British dude" Jeremy Clarkson, who hosts the popular British TV program "Top Gear." The BBC show is dedicated to automobiles and racing but with a biting sense of humor to make things interesting. Well, between all the great European cars and the sometimes nasty commentary, it's no surprise that I've become quite a fan of the show.

This isn't the first time I've featured a "Top Gear&… Read more

Looking back: The Ferrari F430

This week we've been enjoying Web videos of the newest sports car masterpiece from Ferrari called the 458 Italia that should hit American soil within the next few months. The 458 was developed to be the heir apparent to another popular Ferrari performance model, the F430, so I thought it would be appropriate to a look back at the popular F430 model produced by Ferrari from 2004-2009.

The Web video here depicts the 2006-2007 version of the F430, and just like every other Ferrari I've ever seen, the F430 is indeed a beauty. Ya gotta love the sound … Read more
