Cingular horns in on Helio with MySpace

When Helio struck an exclusive deal with MySpace earlier this year, it became the only carrier in the nation to support MySpace Mobile--in fact, MySpace Mobile was one of the defining features of owning a Helio handset. Starting today however, all Cingular Wireless subscribers will have access to MySpace Mobile as well. All they have to do is text MYSPACE to 386 (FUN) to get the MySpace Mobile application. It costs $2.99 a month in addition to standard data charges, so it's not cheap. As with the Web version of MySpace, you can upload photos, approve friend requests, … Read more

Palm Treo 750 to launch on Cingular soon?

For all you last-minute holiday shoppers, your procrastination may have paid off. The Boy Genius Report says demo units of the Palm Treo 750 have started arriving at Cingular stores, which could mean an official release is imminent. It's been rumored for some time that the smart phone would hit in Q4 2006, but still, there are no details about specific availability dates or pricing.

As a refresher, the Treo 750 is the U.S. variant of the Palm Treo 750v, which was released in Europe in October this year. It runs Windows Mobile 5 and sports the new, … Read more

Cingular quietly prelaunches BlackBerry Pearl (updated)

It's been no secret that Cingular would get its own version of the BlackBerry Pearl, since the company announced the news at the fall CTIA 2006 show, but we really haven't heard much since then. However, it seems the little gem of a smart phone is on its way; the carrier has quietly posted an advertisement on its business Web site, taunting customers with "coming soon" promises. Still, no details on exact availability date or pricing, but we've contacted Cingular reps to see if we can get them to spill the beans. In the meantime, … Read more

Krzr to come to Cingular

If you're a Cingular customer who's crazy over Motorola's Krzr K1, it appears you may not have to wait much longer for the thin handset. Though the carrier has made no official announcement regarding the phone's availability, an eagle-eyed Crave reader recently reported that the phone was featured in a Cingular ad in the November 30 issue of Rolling Stone. The ad was equally mum on a release date, but when I called a local Cingular store, an employee told me it wouldn't be available until next year.

Yes, it's all a bit mysterious, … Read more

Pictures of the LG CU400 revealed

It's not too often a midtier phone with middle-of-the-road features impresses us in the design department, which is what made us sit up and notice the LG CU400, an upcoming Cingular offering for the holidays. We don't know too much about its specifications, but it seems to be a pretty standard midtier phone with what looks like a VGA camera. Engadget Mobile says it's set to be released before the end of the year is over, which should be good for you cell phone shoppers out there. No word on pricing and availability, but we'll keep … Read more

$99 Xbox 360s, LCD TVs after rebates

Here in America, we like to see cause and effect. Use a gun--go to jail. Sixteen tons, what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt.

Joining this pantheon of maxims is "Buy a phone, get some money off your next purchase." First Circuit City came up with a $99 notebook. It costs $399 ordinarily, but if you sign up for 12 months of Vonage, you get the notebook for $99.

CompUSA, Motorola and the main cellular carriers will come out with their own formulation this Friday, according to an ad scan at Black Friday 2006Read more

iPhone to come to Cingular?

As we told you yesterday, iPhone rumors in the past year have become like I Love Lucy reruns--you just can't get away from them. But in recent days some of the most interesting gossip has emerged with a report that a Taiwanese company has received an Apple order for 12 million iPhones. This is the latest picture of the supposed device, but as with every other "iPhone" photo we've posted, we have no way of knowing whether it's real or fake.

We're also hearing again that Cingular will be the exclusive launch carrier for … Read more

Samsung's late bloomer

Samsung quietly introduced the Samsung SGH-X507, a mostly basic model we thought had become lost in the cell phone wilderness. Though the SGH-X507 first appeared on Cingular's radar screen last spring, the carrier took its time in formally introducing the phone. In fact, by late summer when we still hadn't seen SGH-X507, we began to dig a plot for it in our mobile graveyard. But just as we were about to hold services, Cingular brought it back to life.

Behind a basic black and gray flip phone design is a simple feature set meant for making calls. Highlights … Read more

Throw me a bone, Cingular

After telling you about Cingular Music two weeks ago, I was very excited to try it out. So when the new Samsung Sync (a.k.a. the SGH-A707) showed up in my mailbox, I jumped at the chance to give the service a thorough shakedown. But after pulling the phone from its wrapping, I noticed there wasn't a USB cable in the box. Considering the cable is necessary to use Cingular Music (wireless downloads aren't a possibility yet), and that the Sync is the launch handset for the service, I thought it might be a mistake. Yet a … Read more

Cingular hit with Samsung BlackJack

Well, Cingular must have been a very good little carrier this year because it's getting all sorts of smart phone goodies for the holiday season. The Nokia E62, the HP iPaq hw6925/hw6920, and the Cingular 8525 have already been unwrapped and today, Cingular got another gift in the form of the Samsung BlackJack (a.k.a. Samsung SGH-i607). It's the second 3G-enabled (UMTS/HSDPA) smart phone for the carrier, which you can use to access the Cingular Video and Cingular Music services for streaming video and music downloads. Oh, and what's this? It's slimmer than … Read more
