Martini glass set ends 'shaken, not stirred' debate

We all know that James Bond likes his martini "shaken, not stirred," but that's assuming he's drinking out of a traditional martini glass. Anecdotal evidence suggests that this is one of the few times the secret agent got it wrong. While a shaken martini is said to produce a colder drink, the resulting cocktail suffers from cloudiness because of all the excess air bubbles. Personal preference being what it is, perhaps Mr. Bond simply prefers his martinis as cold as possible. These Martini Glass Chillers seem to be the perfect solution to the debate.

Ford Ka: A ride for all Bond girls

With Question of Sport Quantum of Solace just days away from release, Crave's car nerds have been clamoring to discover which new motors Jimmy Bond gets to pootle about in. We were sat here expecting to see an Aston Martin or a BMW, but surprisingly, the first car to gain prominence from the new flick is a Ford Ka.

WTF? Has MI6 been affected by the credit crunch? Not exactly--it turns out the Ka belongs to new Bond girl Camille, played by the delightful Miss Olga Kurylenko.

Apparently she uses it as a runabout, but in true Bond style, … Read more

The 404 196: Where we read the tweets of a whale

It's been way too long since we've had Caroline McCarthy on the show! She makes a very attractive Jeff Bakalar replacement, and it's a trade that we'll take any day of the week. On today's show, we solve the mystery of the Natural History Museum whale, touch on virtual iBoobs, join the British Secret Service, and Wilson reads a very heinous headline about (what else?) butts. We also treat ourselves to a very steamy call from the public, over and over and over again...

I must admit that in Jeff's absence, Wilson and I are super stoked to welcome CNET News reporter Caroline McCarthy to the show today. Caroline is an expert in social media and even started her own Internet meme: the tale of the Twittering Natural History whale. For those of you who aren't familiar, the Natural History Museum in New York is home to a gigantic, life-size blue whale. The museum completed the construction of the whale in 1938, and the big boy somehow managed to sign up for a Twitter account. Check out his page and follow his tweets, the tongue-in-cheek humor is on par with DeadBigFoot. While you're at it, follow The404 and Caroline McCarthy as well!

Flashlight DVR brings us closer to living out our 007 fantasies

Well, maybe not quite 007. I mean, for one thing, could you imagine James Bond walking around with a huge flashlight sticking out of his back pocket? Well, maybe the Timothy Dalton 007, but he was never that cool to begin with. Dalton did redeem himself in my eyes with Hot Fuzz, however.

Anyway, before this becomes a huge diatribe about how Daniel Craig is second only to Sean Connery as the best Bond, let's get back to the issue at hand. Swann Communications, a company that specializes in security monitoring devices, today announced a covert surveillance tool, the … Read more

If you're thinking of splitting up with your lover tonight, please give it a little more thought.

Perhaps like you, I was initially touched by the story of Ian Usher, an Englishman living in Perth, Australia.

Mr. Usher appears to have been betrayed by his significant other. So much so that he decided to set up a website and auction the whole of his life on eBay.

When I say the whole of his life, I understand that he wants to keep his spleen, shins and heart, albeit broken into a thousand pieces. However, his house, his sofa and … Read more

James Bond gadgets 100 years later

Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, was born 100 years ago Wednesday in London.

While that historical footnote passed with hardly any mention in Silicon Valley, Fleming's spy novels deserve a place on the shelf in the section titled "history of technology." Fleming, who rose to the rank of commander in the British Admiralty during the World War II, introduced Bond in 1953 with the publication of Casino Royale. The subsequent Bond books and films brought to public notice everything from luminous watches to car phones and pagers--long before they became commonplace commodities in contemporary society. … Read more
