Asus: Nexus 7 sales climb toward 1 million a month

Asus Chief Financial Officer David Chang says that the company is selling close to 1 million Nexus 7 tablets a month.

Although Google has not released the official sales figures for its 7-inch Nexus 7 tablet, following Tuesday's declaration of Asus' third-quarter earnings yesterday the Taiwanese electronics maker managed to beat the most optimistic estimates. Asus said that its notebook computer range was performing steadily at roughly 5 million shipments per month, but tablet sales jumped from 800,000 in the second quarter to 2.3 million shipments in the third quarter.

Asus shows off Windows 8 and RT lines

Most of these Asus laptops, tablets, and desktops have been seen or mentioned before, but the company brought several upcoming new systems to New York for a press event this week (unfortunately timed for the same day as Apple's iPad Mini unveiling).

Some, such as the dual-screen Taichi or the Windows RT VivoTab, have already generated significant buzz. Others are not quite as high-profile, or else revamps of existing products. A quick rundown is below, along with price and release dates where available.

Asus Taichi Clearly the most interesting new Asus system, this dual-screen laptop has a panel on … Read more

Asus unveils wacky PadFone 2 hybrid device

If you thought the Galaxy Note 2 pushes design boundaries, take a gander at the new PadFone 2 from Asus. A thinner version of the first PadFone, this device also morphs from tablet and smartphone on the fly.

Now chances are the Asus PadFone 2 will never hit American shores since the original PadFone didn't either. Perhaps that's why Asus, longtime laptop builder and maker of Google's hot little Nexus 7 tablet, decided to unveil the PadFone 2 in Milan. Of course, it could also have selected the fashionable location as a savvy PR move to emphasize the device's futuristic design. … Read more

AT&T said today it would sell two Windows tablets, Samsung's ATIV Smart PC and Asus's VivoTab RT.

Google and Asus rumored to be working on $99 Nexus tablet

Could you be able to score a $99 Google Nexus tablet for Christmas this year? That's the latest from the Digitimes rumor mill, which, it should be noted, has a mixed record for getting it right.

Digitimes, apparently relying on anonymous sources in Asus' supply chain, says the companies are collaborating on two new Nexus tablets -- a thinner version of the Nexus 7 that could retail for $199 and another for $99. The report says both new tabs would hit the market by the end of the year in an effort to defend against the anticipated iPad Mini.… Read more
