Not content to expand only its LCD line-up, Samsung unveiled some new plasma TVs as well. As with the step-down Series 6 models, the Series 7 plasmas utilize the company's increasingly ubiquitous Touch of Color bezels (in this case, rose red accents), and feature the same digital media playback functionality and InfoLink online data access found on the Series 7 LCD models. Samsung today ushered in new high-end models to its LCD TV lineup: the Series 8 and Series 9 flat-panel LCD HDTVs. They're the step-ups to the Series 6 and Series 7 models, both of which garnered high marks when reviewed by CNET earlier this year (the LN52A650 scored an Editors' Choice). There was relatively little said Monday at the Centrino 2 launch about new processors. Almost as little as was said about side shows such as a "Montevina" desktop design. The main attraction was the Centrino 2 chipset.
Why? There's not a whole lot that's new about the processors other than faster speeds and improved power efficiency: the new "P" series chips have a thermal envelope of 25 watts versus 35 watts for the previous generation.
Zebra Technologies just announced their new "G-series" line of thermal printers. These little guys fall under the four-inch desktop printer category and, while not specifically for the consumer market, will still appeal to industries that deal with printing labels, receipts, price marking tags, shipping and return labels, boarding passes, ID wristbands and tags, and admission tickets.
The new offerings from Zebra include the GX420t,GX420d, GX430t, GK420t, and the GK420d. Across the board, these printers feature a wide range of convenient, easy to operate printing solutions in the work or home office. Notable specifications include:Wireless: 802.11g … Read more
As home phones are continually threatened with extinction, manufacturers have tried to add functions that appear to bring them closer to their mobile counterparts. But perhaps there's a much simpler tactic: paint them in bright colors.
Following a trend that's become commonplace for most mobile handset makers, GE has introduced the "Ultra Slim Cordless Phone" from its Designer Series in candy-apple red, according to SlashGear. (Not exactly our taste, but it could always be worse.)
Other than the shiny finish, the $70 phone has standard functions including a small LCD, caller ID, and a digital answering … Read more
For a long time we've been begging Motorola to come up with something new, and now it appears the company has done just that. On Monday, Moto joined with Kodak in Beijing to announce a new line of camera phones called the Motorola Zine series. The first model, the ZN5, is no Razr, Krzr, or Rizr refresh; rather, it's a different approach (at least for Motorola) to the camera phone concept.
The ZN5 is not unique for the type of camera it offers, we've seen other 5-megapixel handsets before, but for everything else that goes with it. … Read more
Correction at 10 a.m. PDT: The story incorrectly listed which push e-mail solutions the E71 works with. It does not work with BlackBerry Connect or GoodLink.
It may be that the Nokia E series sometimes suffers from Jan Brady syndrome as it gets overshadowed by a flashier member of its family--the Nokia N series (aka Marcia Brady). But the E series is just as bright and deserves some recognition too.
Traditionally, the E series devices have been very corporate centric and serious in design, but now Nokia is updating the line with the introduction of the Nokia E66 and … Read more
WiMax is in the cards for the Eee PC. Asus will demonstrate notebooks Monday that integrate WiMax chips from San Jose, Calif.-based GCT Semiconductor.
Despite recent statements that the Eee PC 901 will not get WiMax, GCT Semiconductor announced--along with Asus--Sunday that Asus has integrated GCT's GDM7205 WiMAX single-chip silicon into the F8 notebook series and Eee PC.
GCT says the F8 series and Eee PC will be demonstrated with WiMax at the WiMax Expo Taipei that begins on June 2nd.
The widely-reported specifications for the Eee PC 901 are a 1.6GHz Atom processor, an 8.9-inch … Read more
There are plenty of products on the market designed specifically to squeeze into tight spaces, but their designs usually don't require major amputation. Sony has apparently taken that drastic surgical step, however, to a new laptop model headed for the Korean market.
The most notable--and possibly disturbing--aspect of the latest version of Sony's LJ Series is its keyboard, which appears to be about half the size it should be. That means that, when closed, the keyboard doesn't appear to even cover the 15.4-inch screen. Presumably there will be some kind of casing that will protect the … Read more
Gaming is serious business, of course, and the line can often seem to blur between console gear and military-grade hardware. The latest example of this potential convergence may be SteelSeries' 7G professional gaming keyboard.
We're not sure if it's as tough as the survivalist-oriented M779, but the 7G claims to be 10 times more durable than conventional keyboards. That means 50 million keystrokes, according to the company, thanks in part to mechanical switches that are plated in 18k gold. The no-click switches would probably come in handy for covert operations as well. No word, however, if it's … Read more
