Last Friday, we had a bit of Web video fun with some classic European sports cars in action. Out of all those supersweet automobiles, my favorite has to be the somewhat quirky looking Ferrari 250 GT SWB Drogo, perhaps better known as the "Breadvan" because of its unshapely and boxy exterior. Despite its hard-to-miss appearance, a reader noted that the car I focused on about the 5:10 mark in the video was in actuality not the 250 GT. I'll be the first to admit my mistakes and reiterate for the Nth time that I do not … Read more

Though only in its infancy, ESPN's sports radio app gets it right. It loads quickly, with ESPN's telltale ticker along the bottom that spits out headlines and scores for one sport after another. You can read stories in full-screen mode while you listen to one of 15 stations. There's the SportsCenter, too, serving up the latest news every 20 minutes, the PodCenter for accessing ESPN podcasts, and a nifty button for sending a text to the station you're streaming. Apple won't let apps run in the background, but ESPN Radio gets around that with a … Read more
Streaming video continues to be largely MIA on the iPhone, but streaming audio? Ho, boy--it's an embarrassment of riches. Pandora, Slacker, Rhapsody. NPR News, Public Radio Player. The only thing missing? A killer sports app.
It's missing no more. ESPN Radio streams ESPN shows, podcasts, and even live college football games from stations around the country.
This is sports radio done right.… Read more
Lately within this blog I've been discussing classic European sports cars and classic sports car racing. Yesterday I dedicated my web video and blog time to the Ferrari 712. While I was searching for clips of the 712, I stumbled across another related subject that I thought would be fun to talk about here. It is perhaps the most unusual sports car ever built in terms of appearance, and it is the Ferrari 250 GT - a car most enthusiasts and historians refer to as the "Breadvan".
The Ferrari 250 GT was dubbed the "Breadvan" … Read more
After reviewing this last weekend's Classic Endurance Racing event at Silverstone, I went back to the CER website to read a little more about what they're all about. Problem is, the website is mostly written in French, a language that I'm only scarcely familiar with. Apparently, they have a special feature on the "Modele Unique" Ferrari 712 driven by Paul Knapfield at CER's final race at Silverstone. If only I could read French would I know what makes this vehicle "unique"...
Specific "modele" aside, any Ferrari is pretty bad assed. … Read more
Before 2007, the 2K series of hockey video games was tough to match. It seemed 2K had a perfect sense of gameplay, physics, and true-to-life NHL action. When EA Sports revamped its franchise in NHL 07 by introducing the Skill Stick and a new game engine, the tide immediately turned.
With the 2009-2010 NHL season fast approaching, both hockey games look to improve on their respective formulas. While each game tries to create an accurate hockey simulation experience, only one title is able to deliver a winning combination.… Read more
As I noted earlier this week, American race car driver Bobby Rahal won the final European-based Classic Endurance Racing event that took place in the UK this past weekend driving his Lola T290 race car. For those of you not familiar, the Lola family of race cars is a British-made brand of race cars with a long and successful history. They have made many a variety of sport car, including Formula 1 and IndyCar makes among many others throughout the years. And while Lola is not quite a household name in the States, it is a manufacturer that is well … Read more
Toward the end of last week, I previewed the final race of the 2009 Classic Endurance Racing season that took place this last weekend at the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire, England. I was hoping to find some footage from the actual race that featured victor Bobby Rahal in his Lola BDG, but to my surprise there was no such video on the web. Sigh.
So I began tooling around Silverstone Circuit's official website to see what motorsport events they hold at this historic track. Through my web surfing, I came across what it is known as the … Read more
Yesterday I previewed this weekend's SCORE Terrible's Primm 300 race taking place in Las Vegas. Well, this current weekend is also the time of another annual motorsport event, although it is quite different from the off road race taking place in Sin City. In fact, this race doesn't take place anywhere close to Vegas - you're gonna have to jump across the pond to the United Kingdom, for that is the locale of this year's final race for Classic Endurance Racing - the Autosport 1000 KM of Silverstone.
Classic Endurance Racing (CER) was founded in … Read more
