AppleShare Client 3.7.2 has a "damaged resource"; other AppleShare 3.7.2 problems reported

Several readers (including "Kwai Chang Caine" and Tom McKenna) report that, after installing the new AppleShare Client 3.7.2, Conflict Catcher 4 claims that the file has a "damaged resource." This may be due to a "bug" in CC4, since the AppleShare file did not otherwise cause a problem - at least on Power Macs.

On a 680X0 machine, Kwai found that having AppleShare Client 3.7.2 installed prevented restarting or shutting down; instead a message appears that some unknown application refuses to quit. Steve Crossman found that, after installing the 3.… Read more

MacLinkPlus and ClarisWorks 5 problems: a follow-up and a reply from DataViz

Regarding the problem, reported last time, of at least some DataViz translators not working with ClarisWorks 5, Ross Willits writes: "I also had this problem until I got this work-around that completely solves the problem: Before installing CW5 (or before re-installing it) trash the Mac OS Easy Open Prefs and disable any existing MacLinkPlus control panel. Then install (or reinstall) CW5, and let it install a new MacLink Plus control panel. That done, I have had no trouble converting Word 6 files (or opening them directly from the finder with Easy Open)."

The startup delay one more time: another question and a possible simple work-around

Another question Last time, we questioned whether a low battery could really be the cause of these infamous startup delays ( as described here several times now) - since the problem goes away and returns depending upon which version of the OS you are using.

This led David Werblo to pose an equally interesting question: If the problem is really dependent on the OS, how does the Mac "know" what OS is in use at the time the startup delay occurs? People describe this problem as occurring almost immediately upon turning on the Mac, before the hard drive even … Read more
