NewsGator introduces feed suggestions

NewsGator converted its popular RSS feed aggregation clients to freeware in January 2008, and now that seed has borne fruit: recommended fruit, to be precise.

Partnering with SenseArray, a collaborative filter from Uprizer Labs, NewsGator now offers live RSS feed recommendations from feeds that the user hasn't already subscribed to. Currently available only on the online NewsGator client, the filter pulls information from NewsGator as well as its sibling desktop clients, FeedDemon for Windows and NetNewsWire for the Mac so that users who synchronize their RSS data will be contributing to the list of recommendations.

Intel denies report of Atom-based iPhone in the pipeline

Intel has emphatically denied a report that Apple is planning to use its Atom processor in a future version of the iPhone.

On Wednesday, our sister site ZDNet.de reported that the head of Intel's German operations told reporters that Apple was planning to use the Atom chip in a larger version of the iPhone, due out at some future date. ZDNet.de has since amended its article to say that Hannes Schwaderer was only referring to the possibility that Apple might use Atom in a future Mobile Internet Device, not the iPhone.

Atom-based Asus Eee PC 901 spotted

It seems as if only yesterday we were marveling at Asus' new 9-inch Eee PC 900 (actually, it wasn't yesterday, it was Monday). About the only thing we didn't love about this pocket-sized marvel was its dated Celeron processor--especially since the fine folks at Intel have been talking up this whole Atom thing for so long (that's the company's new low-cost, low-power CPU especially made for netbook-style laptops).

Intel Atom chip makes strong showing at Japan conference

Intel's Atom processor was prominently displayed in systems at a conference in Japan. The chipmaker's next-generation X4500 graphics also made an appearance.

Small systems and circuit boards using the Atom processor appeared on the Web site PC Watch, which highlighted designs at a "Systems Expo" in Tokyo.

A host of small devices with the Atom processor are due in June. The 45-nanometer chip will compete with processors from Via Technologies such as the C7 and upcoming Isaiah processor.

Intel Germany executive reportedly confirms Atom-based iPhone

In what might be a high-profile case of career suicide, an Intel Germany executive has reportedly confirmed that Apple plans to use Intel's Atom processor in a future iPhone.

The report, from our sister site ZDNet.de, is in German. I don't speak German. Apple acquires low-power chip designer PA Semi

Apple has reportedly made a rare acquisition, snapping up low-power chip company PA Semi one day before reporting its quarterly earnings.

Forbes reported late Tuesday that Apple has agreed to purchase the company for a middling $278 million, quoting Apple spokesman Steve Dowling as confirming the deal. PA Semi made its debut a few years back designing low-power chips based on Apple's old friend, the Power architecture.

Nine-inch Asus Eee PC 900 details unveiled

We've been spilling a lot of virtual ink about the popular 7-inch Asus Eee PC lately, but the real buzz is about that system's follow-up, a slightly bigger 9-inch version Asus has been teasing us with since last year.

It's now officially called the Asus Eee PC 900, and the first reviews are starting to trickle out in the U.K., where the system has a set release date of May 1, although we don't have an official U.S. price or release date yet.

Japan handheld with Intel Atom chip debuts

Sharp got atomized Monday. The Japanese electronics maker along with Willcom announced the ultra-mobile Willcom D4 "communication device" based on Intel's Atom processor and Microsoft's Vista operating system.

Microsoft and Intel were also credited with development of the device, according to the Japanese-language release on the Sharp Web site.

The handheld-size device uses a 1.33GHz Z520 Intel Atom processor and runs Windows Vista Home Premium (with Service Pack 1). Other prototype devices based on similar designs--referred to as mobile Internet devices or MIDs--have also been shown running the Linux operating system.
